Although a respectable Canadian back, Harris's departure does leave room for a Canadian replacement at another position and Bouno acted quickly in signing Mike Edem. It's not as if the Lions were not competitive last year, but I thought there defense ran out of gas in the 2nd half of many games last season. The offense was a little erratic learning Tedford's new offense but I thought the personnel was decent.
They were already starting a Canadian at safety though; which is the most likely spot for Edem this season.

Yes, but the Canadian (Eric Fraser) they were starting at safety isn't very good. He can throw the odd hit over the middle, that's about it.

I agree, but Gil brought up how the Lions will offset the loss of Harris' NI spot by the signing of Edem; which considering the Lions started a Canadian at safety last season; it's a moot point. Without question the Lions improved the safety spot by signing Edem.

Wally-boy might have to do without 3 imports on the O-line like he used last year; not sure if Collie is due back but him & Gore are a couple of pretty good NI receivers ... + 3 NI O-linemen = 5 NIs on offence. And Wally is a 7 only need apply kinda guy, so he would need just 2 NIs on defence then - Edem at safety and then a D-lineman ? (David Menard has been playing quite a bit for them at DE and this guy is very good / under-rated IMO; plus don't they still have Westerman on the D-line); also linebacker Bo Lokombo might become a regular starter on their D perhaps?

Can't find it anywhere else, but 3DN is reporting that Michael Reilly has retired.

Very good career. But he was a shell of himself the last couple of years. He did take a beating though.
