They don't call it Beautiful BC for nothing! And Kamloops is not anywhere near the top of the list. Why Kamloops? As Jonathon Jennings said when asked why it took so long to get a contract extension, "Wally's cheap".

The training camp location may have more to do with Braley's cheapness than Wally's.

Must be great for the players to play there for three weeks.

Rumours are floating around Vancouver that this is Wally's last year. Where have we heard that one before?

If the Argos were going all out, where would they locate? Port Carling? Huntsville? I guess if Huntsville had the facilities for a G8 Summit, they could host a CFL TC.
Kamloops is not in the Rockies. Lake Louise is in the Rockies about 5 or 6 hours east of Kamloops.

One of the factors for having the Lions TC in Kamloops is the usually dry and sometimes hot weather.

Probably the main factor would be the facilities at Thompson Rivers University. The dorm is right beside the football field and includes an exercise room that faces the field. I am not sure if the players have access to the swimming pool that is part of the complex but the overall set up is ideal for a TC.

Perhaps they're adjacent to the Rockies? Certainly a beautiful vista of mountains in the backdrop. Commenting thousands of miles from the Rockies in flat Ontario it looks stunning.

A far cry from Argos Training Camp held at York University. Currently adjacent to massive infrastructure construction and the bedlam we know as Toronto. Feedback for the team: hold the TC in the best environment for the players. The hundreds serious football fans that travel to York University will travel anywhere in Southern Ontario where the team would relocate.

Hell no! York is a great location. And no more subway construction after this year.

Jason Arakgi, the CFL's all-time leader is ST tackles, has retired to pursue a job outside football.
Newcomer Alex Ross has beaten out last year's third string QB, Keith Price, to become the backup to Jennings and Lulay.

Ed Willes reports below on who won some of the starter jobs for the Lions.

On the offensive line, it appears Canadian Football League rookies David Foucault, the giant Montrealer by way of the Carolina Panthers, has won the left guard spot and import Kelvin Palmer beat out veteran Antonio Johnson at right tackle.
At one wide receiver position, Shaq Johnson — last year’s fourth rounder — has claimed a job until Chris Williams gets healthy. Beyond that, the Lions hope to keep running back Josh Harris around to back up Jeremiah Johnson.
On defence the picture is a little murkier with Buono trying to chose between four defensive ends in incumbent Craig Roh, Andrew Hudson, Josh Shirley and DeQuin Evans. One outside linebacker spot is also up for grabs, although newcomer Micah Awe has impressed. And in the secondary, second-year man Anthony Thompson appears to have wrestled the wide-side corner spot away from veteran Keynan Parker.

Just wasn't worth the price. Sometimes these big contracts just never work out in the player's favour. I'm sure he could kick well, but the rookie can handle all 3 duties.

Swayze getting injured in relatively short order sure didn't help him either.

Former Argo Andrew Jones, who helped win Grey Cups for Toronto in 2012 and Edmonton in 2015 and was with the Riders last year, has signed with the Lions.

Despite the previous problems in their relationship, Wally needs a rush DE and the media is delighted to have someone so quotable as Foley, starting with God playing a role in his return.

And the Lions aren’t the only ones excited about Foley’s return. Just ask the media who now have access to Foley’s unique world view.
“Some people might say it’s the universe or its energy and I know that sounds flaky,” Foley said. “But I think it was God’s plan to have me back there. It felt comfortable. It felt right. I know Wally and I still felt like I owed this team something.”

While HC Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints acknowledges the limitations of former Lion LB Adam Bighill 5'10" size, he has been impressed by his performance including two tackles, a pass knockdown and an interception in limited game time in two preseason games. Payton holds out the possibility he could make the special teams. If he sticks in the NFL, it would be quite a loss for the Lions.

BC Lions QB Jennings passes were often sailing off-target against the Riders, leaving the offence looking woefully inept throughout the game. I watched the game at BC Place against the Stampeders where I saw the same thing was happening in the first 27 minutes of the game during which the Lions failed to mount a sustained drive and had only 65 yards passing and Jennings was 6/11. However, with just under three minutes to go suddenly Jennings started throwing sharp, accurate passes that continued for the rest of the game that resulted in 175 yards passing while going 20/27 and all of its 17 points. Jennings seems to have shaken off the rust that was so evident for 1 1/2 games after his return from missing 4 games due to injury.

Lulay's latest season-ending injury to his ACL is raising major questions about his future including when and if he will be able to return, what happens in terms of free agency when his contract runs out, and whether Buono is hinting to Lulay about thinking about turning to coaching now.

It took several years for Travis Lulay to find a home with the B.C. Lions so he wasn't prepared to discuss his playing future in Vancouver just hours after the team announced he is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. ...
The 33-year-old quarterback will undergo surgery on his right knee at the end of the month to repair a torn ACL suffered early in the Lions' 41-18 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Friday. It was his first game since he was reinstalled as the team’s starter. ...
It's the third major surgery Lulay will face in his nine-year career with the Lions, which has led to speculation he might instead opt to retire. That’s not in the plans, Lulay said. At least not yet. ...

A complication for Lulay will be the fact he becomes a free agent after the season. Lions coach/GM Wally Buono was non-committal as to whether the club would offer him another contract or discuss coaching opportunities.
"He's got to decide for himself," said Buono.

Because of Lulay's injury, the Lions have signed former Argo QB Mitchell Gale.

DE Alex Bazzie, who had tryouts with the Colts, Panthers and Cardinals this year, has decided to resign with BC despite the Riders making a major effort to get him. Lions need a rush end badly to help in their chances of making a crossover playoff spot. However, with Lulay out for the season, Jennings playing poorly, and the Riders having a game in hand, its looking increasingly difficult for them.

Bazzie notched a career-high 11 sacks and 31 tackles to go with a forced fumble in 2016 for BC and he was named a West Division all-star. He’s posted 29 sacks in 50 career CFL games, all with the Lions.
The six-foot-one, 228-pound Marshall product has found a way to consistently rush and disrupt the quarterback in the CFL, which should help a B.C. unit that’s recorded only 18 sacks this season, second last in the CFL.
