I agree, but Gil brought up how the Lions will offset the loss of Harris' NI spot by the signing of Edem; which considering the Lions started a Canadian at safety last season; it's a moot point. Without question the Lions improved the safety spot by signing Edem.

Wally-boy might have to do without 3 imports on the O-line like he used last year; not sure if Collie is due back but him & Gore are a couple of pretty good NI receivers ... + 3 NI O-linemen = 5 NIs on offence. And Wally is a 7 only need apply kinda guy, so he would need just 2 NIs on defence then - Edem at safety and then a D-lineman ? (David Menard has been playing quite a bit for them at DE and this guy is very good / under-rated IMO; plus don't they still have Westerman on the D-line); also linebacker Bo Lokombo might become a regular starter on their D perhaps?

Not a chance with Buono running the show he has weakened the clubs connection to the community by cutting loyal players. And treating Andrew Harris the way he did. Its almost like he is intentionally driving the lions into the ground to lower the teams value so he can participate in an attempt to buy the lions for cheap. He has made so many questionable decisions over the last few years its hard not to think that way. He really plays hard ball with canadian players and uses your off field job or the fact that your wife has community connections to lowball you. He's done it with several players over the years. This town has had enough of Wally he should retire and pay to go to games.

I don't buy this for a second. In his past he has also released good import players like Allen Pitts and Kelvin Anderson, and let Geroy Simon walk as well. He is strictly business, and doesn't take emotions into his decision making. It may be harsh, but it also is what has kept him successful over the years.

Wally is known to play hard-ball with veterans who he feels are on the wane or have too much mileage, plus are paid well. Sometimes this strategy can work, but other times it can back-fire I think. I believe good ole Wally really believes he can just find new and cheap import talent and plug them in wherever and it will work and they'll have a good TEAM. We shall see this coming season = real chance for Wall-E to prove he is still this great football mind; they have some good talent on the Lions but like all CFL teams, IMO they have some holes. Declining attendance in BC lately, early play-off exits (that slaughter in Montreal 2 seasons back was embarrassing), merry-go-round at HC and now back to Wall-E again: poor season there with no play-off appearance might really hurt in terms of creating more fan & media apathy. But hey- maybe drives the price way down for some prospective buyer; though I bet clueless old Braley thinks they are worth 10s of million$.

I'm not sold on Jennings at QB yet, either.

Buono still has the hammer in negotiations.

If Jonathan Jennings starts all 18 games for the BC Lions this season and leads the team to the Grey Cup, he will earn $110,000 this season. By far, the lowest of any projected Day One starting quarterback in the CFL. And if he gets injured early in the season, that number will drop to just $55,000.
Jennings has two years left on his entry-level contract, meaning the Lions have all the leverage - for now.‎ But while general manager and head coach Wally Buono still doesn't want to be pinned down to a timeline, he realizes that it might be best to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
"I don't want this becoming a distraction and it's becoming a distraction,” said Buono. “We'd like to get him to a bridge contract and want to make sure that both the player and club are taken care of."
There have been suggestions in recent weeks that Jennings’ new agent, Bardia Gharemenia, would encourage his client to hold out if the Lions wouldn’t pony up, but Gharemenia doesn’t want to go there.
“Holding out is not a good option for a young quarterback. He needs to play at this stage of his career and he wants to be there for the start of camp,” said Gharemenia.

With Wally's penchant for saving money, you can bet that he will be salivating at the opportunity to replace some high-priced veterans with free-agent signings out of camps with the help of McEvoy's advice.

Neil McEvoy lives for this time of year. The Lions director of football operations and player personnel is getting ready to attend the first of eight free agent camps the club is holding across the United States.
It all begins this weekend in Los Angeles and Phoenix, with the final camp set for Seattle on May 1.

The Lions were one of two CFL teams and two NFL teams to attend the pro day for UBC kicker Quinn van Gylswyk. The Victoria, B.C. native connected on 40 of 49 field goals this season and his known for his big leg as well as his strength as a punter.

The other team checking out van Gylswyk was our Argos.
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force

Van Gylswyk seems like a very good dual kicking prospect - both place kicker & punter; he is drawing a lot of attention and might go early in the draft - Argos might have to use their 1st round pick to get him - not that often done for kickers, but if the guy is a potential impact kicker (even if it's just at one of the jobs at first) - might end up a good pick. He's getting all the attention as far as kickers this draft; there is a place kicker at U of Maine - Sean Decloux (from Ottawa) who just had his senior season and thus should be up this CFL draft (?) - haven't heard any CFL draft mention of him and not sure if he has punting ability as well.

As far as Henoc Muamba talk again - why would Wally & BC be interested ? - they have Elimimian & Bighill already, plus Canadian Bo Lokombo - all are bigger MLB or Will linebacker types - just don\t see how Muamba would fit in there - unless they would trade one of those other guys ??? Some other CFL teams would be much better fits - Ottawa, the Stamps, Bombers or the Argos.

I can see them making one of their incumbents available and going after Muamba.

I'd take either of Bighill, Elimimian or even Lokombo, but I don't think Wally would let any of them go. Edmonton could be a landing spot for Muamba; I wouldn't rule out Ottawa or Toronto either.

Why get rid of one of arguably the 2 best overall defensive players in the league (Bighill & Sol-E = both up there IMO) ??? - salary dump?; age/injury concerns ? Muamba would be a fine replacement though and a Canadian starter too. Wally is a 7 NIs only need apply kinda guy, and I think he already has his pencilled in 7 positions, so no real "ratio problem" need there, but maybe ?

Austin Collie will retire. Interesting what they'll do with their national receivers. If possible I'd make a trade with Ti-Cats to get Spencer Watt (if healthy), who is from the Vancouver area.

Wonder if Watt is healthy? The Ticats might want to keep him as they don't have much in terms of NI receivers; BC might want him too - and they surely could ask for way more than Watt in return if they were offering Sol-E or Bighill. However - there are quite a few pretty good receiver prospects up this draft - both teams could look there, and maybe get as good or much better than Watt.

Thought I had heard that about Collie too; they also lost Andrew Harris = so that's 2 NI starters from offence gone; but they went with 3 import O-linemen last year, and will probably go with just 2 this season (already cut that import who played C last year I believe, and added O/Neill from the Ticats). Guess they might "need" another NI starter for D possibly, so maybe adding Muamba makes sense; I still can't see giving up an impact D player the calibre of either Sol-E or Bighill.

Here'a confirmation that Collie has retired and a summary of his career.

Austin Collie's football career, which has been filled with plenty of highlights amid health issues during his pro years, has apparently come to a close.
The BC Lions of the Canadian Football League announced Wednesday that the former BYU star told the club he plans to retire. That brings to an end a pro career that began in 2009.
The 30-year-old Collie only played one season in the CFL, catching 43 passes for 439 yards and seven touchdowns while being reunited with former college teammate and quarterback John Beck. Collie also threw a pass for a 21-yard score in a season that was cut short by injury.
Beck, who threw for 498 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions in a backup role last year, has also retired from the game.
Collie was a fourth-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009, leaving BYU after his junior year. He played for three teams in five seasons in the NFL and had 179 receptions, 1,908 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.
But concussions and other injuries marred a once-promising NFL career for Collie. His first season, he played in the Super Bowl for the Colts and, for a short time, was among the NFL's receiving leaders early in his second season. But that year, in 2010, Collie suffered a pair of concussions that cut short his season.

What happened to Akeem Foster after 2011? Seemed like he was good that year, then he just fell off the map.

Akeem's play definitely dropped off as the following stats show. After several poor seasons he signed in November 2015 with the Tri-Cities Fever of the Indoor Football League.
