And yet that mediocre at best receiver "talent" Hazelton is now considered a solid part of the Esks offence ?

Of the former so-called big 3 of the Argos, Hazelton was easily the least talented IMO (no question in my mind what-so-ever there); Gurley gone from the CFL - attitude issues?; if Hazelton can start for the Esks, I see no reason why Elliott can't start for BC - you only have to be the 4th best import receiver in camp if the team has 4 of them pencilled-in for the 5 pack (and you can be a spin the ball jerk all you want probably); problem there may be is that BC will look at going with 2 starting NI receivers, so Elliott might have to be the 3rd best import in TC - and BC have signed fomer Rider Ricky Collins - who is very good IMO - to go alongside Manny & Burnham, and Collins likely should easily grade out better than Elliott.

No doubt in my mind that Elliott has better skills than Hazelton. He's just a bigger head case.
It's us vs the rest of the country

Have to admit though, Elliott paying his own way shows he wants to play in the CFL.

One thing is for sure: Kevin Elliott is going to have competition for the job as the Lions have signed four other international WR this week: Kenny Lawler, who has been on the Seattle Seahawks PR; Sammie Grant, who was in the Detroit Lions mini-camp in 2017; Vernon Johnson, who has played in Germany and attended Detroit Lion and Ottawa TCs; and Ronnie Holley, who played for Azusa Pacific University.

The Lions are taking a much slower approach to testing Travis Lulay's knee this year compared to his shoulder injury recovery process last year.

Josh Boden, who looked like he had a promising CFL career in the offing a decade ago, is once again facing criminal charges: two of assault, dangerous driving, and failure to comply with conditions of recognizance. His life unfortunately has continued to spiral downward as the numerous charges outlined in the Wikipedia article since 2008 (which I did not quote below as they are so numerous) indicate.

In his Canadian Junior Football League career, Boden played for the South Surrey Rams (now the Big Kahuna Rams) of the British Columbia Football Conference. In his only season there, Boden was BCFC Most Outstanding Receiver, Special Teams Player, Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year. He won the CJFL Rookie of the Year award as well. In 2005, Boden attended British Columbia Lions training camp. In a preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders, he scored a 14-yard touchdown. Boden was officially signed as a free agent by B.C. in May 2006, but as a member of the Territorial Protected List. In 2006, he attended training camp again and made the teams as a member of the Developmental Roster. In 2007, Boden made the teams roster as a backup wide receiver. During a game on September 29, 2007, he caught his first CFL pass. In fact, he finished the game with 3 catches for 83 yards.

Boden was released by the Lions following being charged with domestic assault and robbery in April, 2008.[1] The charges were dropped on August 14, 2008, and Boden stated his intention to resume his football career.[2] BC Lions general manager Wally Buono stated he did not intend to re-sign him.[3]
Three months later he formally signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on September 24, 2008, in time for a September 27 game against the Lions at BC Place.[4][5] After he was cut, GM Bob O'Billovich said Boden was cut because Chris Bauman's post-concussion problems had cleared.

BC has signed RB/ST Travon Van, who the Eskimos released. He got into only six games last year due to injury but rushed for 283 yards. He previously spent two years with Ottawa.

BC has cut three players and added four more. Of the cuts the most prominent is DL Mic'hael Brooks, who played in 43 games in the last three seasons for the Lions.

The Lions also announced that DL Micheal Brooks, DL Luther Maddy and OL Felix Gucusana have been released by the club while WR Jasper (Junior) Collins, DL Quinton Bradley, DL Courtel Jenkins and K/P Jose Maltos have all been added to the roster. ...

DL Quinton Bradley – Quinton appeared in 42 games across four seasons with the University of Idaho. He had a very productive career with the Vandals, racking up 147 tackles, 30 tackles for a loss and 15.5 sacks. Quinton’s best season was his final, as he recorded 54 total tackles, 15 of which were for a loss, six sacks, broke up six passes and forced one fumble en route to being named first-team All-Sun Belt.

WR Jasper Collins – The Mount Union product spent the last three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Jasper, also referred to as Junior, has appeared in 17 career games, recording 43 catches for 566 yards and three touchdowns.

DL Courtel Jenkins – Courtel was a disruptive force for the University of Miami during his three years on campus. He registered 54 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and forced one fumble through 34 games with the Hurricanes. His sophomore season was his best, as he recorded 29 tackles, three tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks in 12 games.

K/P Jose Maltos – Jose attended training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2013 after graduating from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico. He also represented his home country of Mexico at the 2011 IFAF World Championship.

Jonathon Jennings has a NFL arm and mobility but he also had the worst starting QB rating in the CFL. Coach Jarius Jackson talks about where Jennings is at in his career in the following article.

“I’m trying to assess what’s going on with him mentally,” Jackson said as the Lions completed Day 3 of their training camp. “It’s what’s going on between the ears right now.
“You never know what a guy’s mentality is coming into a season. He had some success early. Sometimes that is a good thing. Sometimes it’s a bad thing. But that’s what we’re using this time for, to see who Jonathon is, to see what makes him tick.”...

Jennings is now in his fourth camp with the Leos, and this season sets up as a watershed moment for the kid from Columbus. Four years ago, he was little more than a training-camp arm before he was thrust into the starter’s role and quickly established himself as one of the league’s most exciting young talents. That was followed by a 2016 season in which he looked like a franchise quarterback in the making, throwing 27 touchdown passes while leading the Lions to a 12-6 record and the Western Conference final. ...

As Jackson says, it’s hard to know exactly what went wrong with Jennings, but the overall effect was jarring. He started off well enough, then sustained a shoulder injury in Week 4, rushed back to the lineup against Saskatchewan in Week 8 and promptly served up four interceptions in a 41-8 loss to the Riders. And things unravelled like a cheap sweater from that point. After a couple more uninspired outings Jennings lost the starting job to Lulay, who was promptly lost for the season in Week 11 to a knee injury of his own. At that point the Lions were still 6-5 and in the playoff mix but, with Jennings at the controls, they lost six of their last seven and missed the playoffs for the first time in the Wally Buono era.

Which brings us to 2018. New GM Ed Hervey undertook an ambitious renovation of the Lions’ lineup this offseason to address many of the team’s needs. But, at its core, it was intended to bring Jennings back to his 2016 form. Part of the quarterback’s problems last year involved a leaky offensive line which had Jennings playing under duress far too often. This year, it’s been improved substantially with the addition of giant tackles Joel Figueroa and Jovan Olafioye.
Jackson, who established himself as one of the CFL’s best offensive minds after leaving the Lions in 2013, was brought back to help rehabilitate Jennings. There were multiple offseason meetings with Hervey, Buono and sports psychologist Dr. Frank Lodato.
I expect him to look forward,” Hervey said of Jennings. “He’s going to hear a lot of noise about last season and rightfully so. But he has to be mentally tough enough to focus on this team and this year. I’m not judging him on last season and he shouldn’t judge himself on last season.”

And that’s how Jennings sees things. During a brief on-field interview following a Lions workout, the 25-year-old confidently laid out his expectations for himself and the team and didn’t mince words while doing it.
“You’re going to find out who I am,” he said. “That’s a quality football player who makes plays and who’s exciting to watch. I don’t think that’s changed. Obviously last year was a down year and there were a lot of negative things. But I know who I am and everyone else will see who that is.” ...

Jennings was asked about his leadership skills. “I thought I was doing that, but it’s being a little more vocal and making sure guys understand this is my team,” he said. “People will know we’re going to win together and it starts with me at quarterback."
So he sounds like a different guy. Now let’s see if he plays like one.

The Lions have traded a 2019 fourth round draft pick to Hamilton for International DL Davon Coleman and a sixth round 2019 pick. Coleman played 17 games for the Tiger Cats last year with 41 DTs and five sacks. Before that he spent three years in the NFL with four teams, appearing in four games with three tackles.

Nice get for BC - Coleman was impressive for the Ticats last year and BC has need at the position. Not sure what Hamilton was thinking there, but maybe they think they have some better young guys, plus heard Coleman got involved in a fight of sorts at TC there - maybe Glanville was not impressed? Ticats did not re-sign former draft pick DTs Atkinson & Gill ??? - they still have last year's pick Vaughn, but with the former 2 in the mix they could have probably easily have started 2 NIs DTs with Laurent; not in their 7 only plans probably.

The fact Coleman was involved in a very loud extended argument with a teammate the day before he was traded may well have had something to do with it.
