Injuries played a role in the Lions signing of WR Anthony Parker, but he also provides the opportunity to put a Canadian into a position that has been occupied by an International, freeing up a spot elsewhere for an American. The statement below that Parker had 36 catches in 108 games is incorrect. He had 178 receptions over his career of 108 games for 2,245 yards, with 36 catches in 2017 for 482 yards. (https://www.bclions.com/players/anth...rker-2/158171/)

As the injuries and inconsistencies continue to pile up on the west coast, getting a receiver of Parker’s calibre made perfect sense especially when you consider he gives the Lions options when it comes to the ratio. Should he get an opportunity in Emmanuel Arceneaux’s spot, it gives them the luxury of starting an American at a different position.
It also doesn’t take a medical doctor to point out that this receiving corps has been battling a case of the “drops” lately, especially on the heels of their most recent defeat against Saskatchewan. In 108 career games with the Stampeders, Parker recorded 36 catches, 15 of those for touchdowns. One other thing the offence can certainly benefit from is the big game experience he brings to the table.

The Lions have received International WR Jordan Veasy and a 6th round draft choice in the trade of DL Maxx Forde to Ottawa.

A native of Alabama, Veasy played two seasons for the University of California Golden Bears, racking up 63 receptions for 797 yards and nine touchdowns. More recently, he attended camp with the Tennessee Titans before being waived on September 1st.

The club said the 34-year-old underwent concussion protocol and didn’t return to the game. But Lulay being active at practice would indicate he’s passed head injury tests and fit to return to the football field.
To be clear once again: There's a difference between undergoing concussion protocol and being concussed - Both Lulay and Collaros were taken out for precautionary reasons.

I'm not anymore. I thought he had so much potential as a CFL slotback, but clearly not meant to be.

Wish the Argos had tried to acquire Forde - impressed me in his limited playing time last season at DT (and was a US college ball DE, so maybe could play reps there too?).

The Lions have a couple of other young Canadian players / former 1st rounders, that they seem to have little use for or view as just back-ups due to passport: O-lineman Charles Vaillancourt & receiver Dan Vandervoort (or maybe they are both injured/nicked; but i kinda doubt it - more like viewed lightly there by Wally & Mr. Ed types). Some other CFL teams should be trying to pry those guys out of BC too - love to see the Argos get Vaillancourt (again, if he is healthy).

The trade was voided as Forde failed his physical.

Maybe Wally could offer Canadian D-lineman David Menard instead? - he seems to have faded away to little use there, after being quite impressive as a rotation guy the past couple of seasons on the D-line (mostly DE, but is strong enough to play some DT too) ?

Not sure what is up with Lattanzio not getting in the Ottawa line-up at DT? - guy is an excellent rotation DT with a real motor and he makes plays - continues to be on the IR (maybe stashed?); I'd guess Thorpe doesn't think much of him cause of his passport; and the Ottawa D-line continues to be weak to average IMO.

GM Ed Hervey said he is actively pursuing 2015 third round draft pick Brett Boyko who has spent the last three years on the PRs of Philadelphia and San Diego, but was released by the Chargers after receiving an injury settlement at the end of TC this year.

One former Argo in, one former Argo out: following the addition of Devier Posey to the roster, Kevin Elliott has been released.

Unlike current Argo Duron Carter, former Argo Devier Posey will immediately put into action against the Als on Friday night.

BC's 2018 first round pick Peter Godber is now the Lions starting centre following Cody Husband's season ending injury, thanks in part to his university OL coach.

“I was the backup centre at Rice for my last two years there. In practice, I’d go ones with the guards and twos with the centre so it’s nothing really new to me. Football is football,” said Godber.

It was at Rice where Godber took some key pointers from his offensive line coach Ronnie Vinklarek, who had also spent time as a coach with Edmonton and Winnipeg. “He pretty much pulled me aside my sophomore year and was like ‘you’re going to be playing professional football whether it’s in the NFL or CFL. You better learn how to snap.’ I’m grateful he did that for me. It has definitely prepared me for this game coming up. I’m excited to go.”

Having a mentor like Husband to learn from has also groomed him well for this key assignment. “He kind of pulled me under his wing,” explained the rookie. “I sat next to him in meetings and he really made sure to show me pretty much how to play the position in this league, what calls to make and explained to me why to make those calls. I was grateful to have learned from him all season. I’m excited and ready to play some football.”

BC has added former Rider kicker Quinn Van Glyswyk to their PR. At UBC he had a 75.4% FG average, hit on all 73 extra points, and 42.5 yard punting average.

BC's defence has allowed 24 points or fewer in each of its last five games, reflecting the improvement it has shown from the start of the season

DT Claudell Louis is starting to make his presence felt as he rotates into the Lions DL with 14 DT and 2 sacks in first five games. Luck played a large role in his playing college ball.

You’d never know he was once a budding soccer star in his native Haiti. ...

“I had played for a year in high school and then stopped because I didn’t really know the game,” recalls Louis. “Then one time I was walking through a training facility and, long story short, a trainer called someone he knew out in California and told them there was somebody here he knew that could play football. The rest is history, I guess. I went out there, took the opportunity and ran with it.” ...

But Louis proved to be a quicker study in his second go around on the gridiron, transferring to nearby Fresno State for his sophomore season. After breaking out as a senior, 47 tackles, five sacks and an All-Mountain West Honourable Mention, he earned himself NFL workouts in Buffalo and Minnesota before attending 2017 training camp with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Now that he has some game action under his belt with a defence that has turned some heads the last couple of weeks, he has recorded 11 defensive tackles (and 3 more DTs on Saturday) and a pair of sacks, Louis is glad he was discovered in that weight room a few years back.

The Lions have acquired RB Tyrell Sutton from Montreal along with a 2019 third round pick in return for a second round pick and a conditional second round pick in 2019 as BC makes its playoff run.
