Beer sales account for most of the concession sales at many sporting events, there is no way a team or venue would sacrifice that amount of profit for costumer satisfaction. Another reason is the social cost and negative publicity that can come with promoting beer drinking with cheaper prices. In the nanny state of Ontario, where government no longer beleives its' citizens can make responsible decisions for themselves. The last thing the Toronto Argonauts or any sports team or venue needs is to be held responsible for public drunkenness by appearing to be the enablers of allowing fans to overdrink through cheaper prices. Let's not even talk about fans who will be taking their cars to and from the game....just that thought alone, is enough to really laugh at this notion of $3.00 beers.
Yeah I remember going to the first home game in Ottawa after reading those articles and expecting different / better lower priced concessions and beers and it was totally the opposite. Overpriced, cold, bland food and super slow service with overpriced low quality beer.

They sold out of pizza, not sure about the beer.

IIRC they don't even make the pizza on site, it wasn't very good.

I think it was Gabriel's Pizza, which is actually pretty good although the best pizza in Ottawa is Colonnade.

Yeah it may be good fresh but by the time that it got to the concession stand in the stadium it was not.

When I lived in Ottawa, I never even heard of Gabriel's Pizza although it has apparently been around for some time. I wanted some of that pizza at the RedBlacks' home opener and then at the soccer game a couple of days later but they ran out of the type of pizza I wanted at both of those games. I am still anxious to try it.

I count 15,368 unsold seats as of 7:55 PM today, which means that 239 have been sold in the past week.

That seems about right, af87. After looking at the Argo Virtual venue it seems about 40% sold, not including several sections which were unavailable, perhaps for Club seating, etc. (which were rumoured to be nearly soldout).

On the bright side season ticket sales have already increased by more than 300%, according to media accounts of Argo subscribers last year. This is only March and once they reach 50% capacity, there should be some urgency for fans to subscribe. The Argos traditionally have a strong walk-up crowd, so that bodes well. There are still nearly 100 $199 packages still available ($18 per game). I'd have thought those sideline seats would be snapped up quickly?

An account executive from the Argos called me regarding my possible interest in season tickets for 2016. He was very nice. I told him I never mind sales calls from the Argos. It's the air duct cleaning calls that really bug me. Anyway, he told me that he couldn't disclose the exact number of season tickets sold so far, but that the reports of 15,000 season tickets sold are false. He said they have already more than doubled the number of season tickets sold for last season. That means what, at least more than 6,000 season tickets sold so far? He also said single game tickets would be available this season.

Sounds like they have lost some momentum, this organization will need to take baby steps before it can walk after years and decades of neglect.

The team could have added inventory in the past week as well which would make weekly sales much stronger. As some posters have stated some seas may be blocked off for sale, so they ca be 'unblocked' later. Really next to impossible to tell how sales are going by looking at a seating map.

Perhaps the noise in the background was being "piped in" to create an illusion of a busy ticket office? As a comic in all seriousness, I was told by someone with ties to the organization that sales are around 12,000. But really, who really knows?

My understanding all along was that single game tickets would be available, just not for the home opener.

Ottawa does the same thing for their home opener. They make you buy a Flex Pack / Mini Pack and only sell single game tickets to the Home Opener last, if there are any tickets left.

How can they not be available for the home opener? That would only make sense if ST's were sold to stadium capacity....unless they plan on giving away a bunch for game 1.

Neely2005 explained there may not be single game tickets for the Argos home opener available if the Argos go the same route as Ottawa and force you to buy a flex pack to get a home opener ticket:

I thought your rep (might have been someone else's) stated that would likely be no flex passes this year due to demand? Perhaps, the Ottawa styled one would be the only one offered

Edit: Never mind, I see on the above post Ottawa will sell singles too if available.

Yeah but they only sell single game tickets to the Home Opener in Ottawa if there are any left after the Flex / Mini Pack offer.

    That was Gill:
