The team has to be competitive though in order to keep some interested (look at what it's done for Hamilton). I still think we have one major issue that will always make things difficult for the Argonauts, and it's the media - until the Argonauts get treated in the media the way the Leafs, Jays and Raps do; it will continue to be an uphill battle. It also doesn't help that the Argonauts and CFL have a large amount of haters - media and general public. TBH I've never understood it.............. What exactly has the CFL/Argonauts done to these individuals to deserve the crap it takes ?
They have done absolutely nothing other than try and win championships (successfully) and be relevant to sports fans and the media in Toronto. If the other teams had that kind of success they would be off the charts more popular than they are now.

I think the trick is to always lose.
I mean the riders are the most popular in the league and they have only won 4 grey cups in their history.

The Rock and Argonauts have won a combined 11 Championships in the last 25 years. Sucks that neither get the recognition they deserve.

ironically the people here that love their homegrown sports product like CFL , Junior Hockey and don't feel the need to look outside their borders are really more like Americans . The insecure fans always looking to America for approval and validation are doing it the true Canadian way.... So....... You CFL fans are all anti Canadian . haha. ALL of my American buddies think like the majority on this forum when it comes to sports.

I just read an article about the Maple Leafs unveiling their 100th anniversary logo at the HHOF.
Brendan Shanahan referred to how successful the Leafs were in the past year. He was essentially referring to restructuring the team by getting rid of more experienced, old regime players like Phaneuf, and developing young, new players.

I am still dumbfounded that a team that finished last in the league can market itself as having a successful season.

    Bizarro Toronto indeed.

The Argos stunk at their peak of popularity in Toronto too.

Considering their goal was not to win the Cup this season or even make the playoffs. And considering what needs to be done to truly rebuild a team ... that was a successful season. In any market.

Though unrelated to this thread, the Argos are partnering with Travelzoo with an offer on the July 13 game vs. OTT and July 25 game vs. MTL.

    http://www.travelzoo.com/ca/entertai...entationMode=1

Up to 55% off. Offer is only for the east side stands so they want to make it look good on TV. I'm OK with it as a SHT, if anyones knows a member (it's free) have them take a look!

Well, Gary Lawless just tweeted that season tickets are at 7000. That is practically double the 3600 we had last season. Where is he getting these numbers, I do not know but I think he's in the ballpark.

@garylawless: 3. @TorontoArgos had 3600 season tickets in 2015. this year, over 7,000 season tickets – an increase of 94 per cent

I wonder how many existing season ticket holders increased their number of Season Tickets for the move to BMO Field? I know that we did.

Maybe if they cut some of their high end ticket prices...they would've sold more season tickets.

It's promos like this that peeve off season subscribers in those sections....make it rewarding to get season tickets like Bob Young did when he bought the Ticats... Bell is basically Rogers for telephones, same crappy organization that was made on a monopoly.

As I explained, it really was simple mathematics that produced that number. Only to be confirmed by reliable sources regarding previous and this years numbers such as "we've doubled". I really want to believe that this game was a one off. When was the last time season tickets holders outdrew the general public to a reg season game? The Argos have succeeded in growing their ST holders, however the majority of growth was from within. I can see this at games. It's the same 3000 or so family's that I have seen for the last 20+ years.

The Argonauts are not as popular or followed as we want to believe. There is little online presence (thank goodness for this forum), merchandise sales, radio talk, you name it, we are dead last in everything except TV ratings. This team currently needs everything to go right just to break 20k attendance and yesterday seemed like a bit of a perfect storm otherwise.

I don't have the answers, but positively thinking, if they can increase ST to 10000 next year (realistic goal), have a better schedule and increase the public profile (which I believe they are doing well currently), there should be no reason they don't average 20k next season. Like others have said, it's going to take time and we are all a little brought back down to earth after this one.

when they count attendance do they do it based on tickets sold, or people actually in the seats?
I'm curious as to how many ST holders just decide not to come to each game.

I know if I was a ST holder I would miss like half my games working a rotating shift.
But the only reason I would buy em would be because I am a hardcore fan and want the team to do well.

I would suggest the vast majority of season ticket holders use their seats or at least make sure someone utilizes them, too expensive to simply not go.

I would suggest corporate st's are rarely used.
Leafs games are always sold out, but the middle seats which are usually corporate bought are almost always 50% empty.

Maybe the argos don't have any corporate ST but I'd venture they at least have some.
