The sad state of the Alouettes as their elimination from the playoffs is confirmed:

The hype surrounding Johnny Football’s arrival in July is long forgotten as Alouettes QB Johnny Manziel remains winless in five CFL starts after completing 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception against the Stampeders. Manziel, who had almost no help from his offensive line, ran the ball five times for 18 yards and was sacked six times. The Alouettes have now given up 60 sacks this season, 26 more than any other team.

The fact offensive-lineman Tony Washington and wide-receiver B.J. Cunningham were both placed on the six-game injured list before the game didn’t help the Alouettes’ offence, which is averaging a league-worst 16.8 points per game and couldn’t put the ball in the end zone against the Stampeders. The Alouettes finished with 337 yards of total offence, while their defence held the Stampeders — who are averaging 30.7 points per game — to 306 yards and intercepted Calgary QB Bo Levi Mitchell three times.

After barely using him this year, the Als have signed Vernon Adams to a two year extension.

The Als have traded OL Phil Blake and WR Patrick Lavoie to the Riders in return for National WR Josh Stanford and a 2020 second round draft choice.

Drafted in 2011 by Montreal, Blake instead signed with the Denver Broncos where he spent three years before signing with the Als where he has played for four seasons. Lavoie has played for Montreal and Ottawa since 2012.

Stanford, in his third year with the Riders, has caught 17 passes for 165 yards in 2018.

John Bowman says he is 98% done with football after this season; but, he will announce a final decision in January. He is a future hall of famer.

In case you haven't noticed the Manziel buzz is long gone in Montreal and, for that matter, the CFL. It's far from surprising on and off the field.

    Win a game
Easier said than done, right? I know. But the fact remains that Manziel has yet to lead his team to an exciting victory. He’s had a few flashes here and there but nothing compares to the jubilant feeling a fan has when they leave the stadium or switch off the television after a win. ...

    Parlez-vous Français?
If there’s one thing that goes over big in the Quebec sports world, it’s athletes who come in and both respect the culture and try their hand at a few French phrases. ...
For Johnny to begin a postgame press conference with a phrase or two is literally the least he can do to better connect with those who he wants to come and see him play. Former Montreal Expos legend Tim Raines never learned French but he threw out a ‘merci’ or a ‘bonjour’ or a ‘comment allez-vous’ when he was in public.

Put in a little face time

Other than a few reported night spot sightings, Manziel hasn’t been seen a ton around town during the daytime. If he and the Alouettes want fans to care about him, he has to show that he cares about the community in which he is living.

    Show commitment

But a few words about his desire to make Montreal a home for a few years and to try and bring a championship to Alouettes fans would go a long, long way.
Montreal sports fans have become cynical and suspicious of their sports teams and sports stars. They’re looking for sympathetic, down-to-earth athletes that want to be here. ...

International LB Glen Love, who has never had more than 27 DTs in his seven year career and only has 10 DTs this year but has been good on ST over the years, will replace National Chris Ackie who was traded to Ottawa with his 81 DTs.

Boris Bede going 2/4 in FG while Drew Brown went 4/4 helped the Argos beat the Als. It's good to see an Argo kicker help the Argos win a game this season instead of losing one.

Mathieu Boulay wrote an article in French entitled "The ten worst decisions of Kavis Reed". He was being kind by only mentioning ten. Here are the ten translated into English. If you read French, you can read Boulay's reasoning at:
    https://www.journaldemontreal.com/20...-de-kavis-reed

    1. Trade of SJ Green to the Toronto Argos
    2. The acquisition of Ernest Jackson
    3. The failure of Durian Durant
    4. The release of Bear Woods
    5. The dismissals of Jacques Chapdelaine and Noel Thorpe
    6. The Acquisition of Johnny Manziel
    7. The trade of Tyrell Sutton
    8. The "inoffensive" line
    9. The fire sale of 2018 (the trades of Chris Ackie, Philip Blake and Patrick Lavoie)
    10. The Mystery of Tyler Johnstone (selected in the supplementary draft at the cost of a first round draft choice next year - he suffered a knee injury in the first game and has not played since)

Yeah, the list could go on and on. I'd add hiring an old ex-NFL HC with zero experience in or understanding of the Canadian game.

Mavis is a total clown / gong-show act there. Will look good on the Wet&andalls to keep the goof in place. Not at all good for the future of football in Montreal though.

Former Alouette HC Rod Rust has died.

Rust was the Montreal Alouettes defensive coordinator under Marv Levy from 1973 to 1975, helping the team to the 1974 Grey Cup. He returned to Montreal twice more, including a stint as head coach in 2001 while also spending time with Winnipeg, Ottawa and Hamilton. He was also the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots’ 1985 Super Bowl team,

TVA reporter Charles-Antoine Sinotte says Manziel is hated by many of his teammates.

On his Les Partants show, Sinotte divulges that he has sources telling him Manziel is “hated” in the locker room and some current Alouettes players don’t want the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner to return in 2019. ...

After the Alouettes latest loss in Toronto, Manziel left the field immediately after the final play instead of sticking around to shake hands as players usually do. That’s not how a leader of a football team or organization should conduct himself. Based on the report from Sinotte other members of the Alouettes have grown tired of his immature acts such as laughing at Antonio Pipkin when he threw a pick-six and complaining publicly about his lack of playing time.

After Mike Sherman said he wanted to be back as HC, President Patrick Boivin said that they won't be discussing the future of anyone in football operations until after the season. Does this mean Kavis could also be going?

From what I've seen, I have to say that John Manziel has been very personable in our league, and he's definitely got football talent and smarts.

The Als have extended Antonio Pipkin through 2020. Playing him in the second half on Saturday may be a signal to reassure him that regardless of how Manziel performs they want Pipkin around.

Well, this is a good move, Pipkin doesn't hurt the roster, that's for sure.

As for Manziel, he is a talented QB. If he gets and accepts a longer-term offer, he can and will be a star in the CFL.
