Even the relatively small margin of last week's Argo game (12 points) was deceiving as the Elks scored two late TDs including one with seconds remaining. One of the things we could count on even when scoring was going down was the likelihood of a lot of close games, but we have not had that so far this season.

The 14 games so far have averaged 44.5 points, which is down about six points per game from last year's season average. We've had three games with 70-plus points and, two in the 20s, four in the 30s, three in the 40s and two in the 50s.
Time to move the hash marks even closer together and move the Kickoffs back to the 5 yard line. As a comic in all seriousness, the league has to be creative in getting new talent to come north, but that is a huge problem with 2 spring leagues (3 next year) and escalating Canadian taxes and a poor exchange rate.

The weather definitely did not help. We tend to get lousy weather like this a few times during the season and the games tend to be affected accordingly.

I am not sure what the answer is to this although let's see how the rest of the season plays out. I will note also that NFL scoring has dropped over the past couple of years also.

I blame Glen Suitor. He went so overboard trying to sell the excitement and the last 3 minutes to the new CBS sports audience, not only did I want to throw up, but you just knew it would backfire.

The url below has an interesting conversation with Als RB coach about why he stays in Canada and Montreal in which he discusses avoiding the guns and racism of the US and the attraction of learning Quebecois culture and language.

Are the Als a good team or not?

I don't know yet, 3/4 of their wins have been against Hamilton and Ottawa.

I think they are a very good team. Definitely top 4 with Argos, Bombers and Lions.

I never thought that the Als had as bad of an off-season as many others thought. It was challenging, given their ownership situation but Maciocia did a decent job IMO. If it ends up being Montreal and Toronto again in the East Final, it will be a hell of a game.

Whether Fajardo plays against the Riders will be a game time decision because he injured his non-throwing left shoulder against Hamilton. Although he finished the game, he has seen very limited practice this week.

Tons of disrespect for the Als on the CFL on TSN panel tonight. Overpraising Ottawa as a "middle tier" team while their opponent (the ALs) are probably in that tier.

The Als have signed American QB Reece Udinski, who played for the Richmond Spiders where he won first team All-CAA while passing for 3,612 yards last year.

Greg Ellingson has returned to practice this week after missing most of TC and the first ten games due to a lower body injury. He should definitely help the offence.

Montreal has released Canadian WR Hergy Mayala who had just 110 yards receiving in 10 games after a 2019 rookie year where he showed a lot of promise in catching 5 TDs and having 562 yards receiving.

Austin Mack became the first CFL player to reach 1,000 receiving yards and has to be a top contender for rookie of the year.

Because he previously played in the NFL, I am pretty sure that Mack is not eligible for rookie of the year. However, he could be Montreal's Most Outstanding Player nominee.

Anyone who has played in a NFL game is ineligible. I knew that he had played in the NFL but I thought the rule might be more like baseball where a hitter can have up to 130 previous plate appearances in MLB or 50 innings pitching and still be eligible to be a rookie or the NHL where a player can play in up to 25 games and still be classified as a rookie.

Marc Antoine Dequoy has 51 DTs, four interceptions, 2 FFs and one TD as he is becoming one of the CFL top safetys.

The Als had two players chosen as well deserved CFL All-Stars: WR Austin Mack, who had 1,154 yards in receptions, and Canadian DB Marc Antoine Dequoy, who finished the regular season with 57 DTs and 5 ST tackles, five interceptions, 3 FFs with two recoveries, six knockdowns, and one TD.
