Very smart move by Hervey IMO - Reilly is currently one of the best QB's in the league and just seems to win games. I for one am very interested to see what Jason Maas can do with him.

Yeah, as an Eskimo fan, I'm excited he's sticking around; he's a leader and a warrior - and like you. I'm curious to see what he and Maas can do together.
I'm hoping Ed Hervey can extend backup James Franklin as well. The kid has touch throwing and composure that reminds me a lot of a young Ricky Ray. He could be a good one down the road.

pretty big contract for @EdmontonEsks QB Mike Reilly. 3 years, $200 K signing bonus and salary in year 2 and 3 north of $500 k

If true that's a pretty hefty salary. Hervey seems to like giving those out (if this deal along with Bowman and Sewell's deals are accurate).
Franklin is an interesting candidate for the future starting QB job. So was a younger McPherson and Jared Zabransky. I remember some fans weren't sold on Reilly when they traded for him from BC. Only time will tell.
Argos Season Ticket Holder 2016-2021.
The only reasons I doubt Milanovich and Barker make a play for Franklin is #1. Milanovich is very high on Kilgore (things could change) and #2. Tillman is not known for paying QB's hefty salaries, so maybe just maybe the Argonauts go hard after Collaros if he becomes available. Another thing to keep in mind - it's been reported that Chris Jones is the one who found and brought Franklin in; could mean something when FA 2017 ramps up.

Edmonton inked Mike Reilly to a three-year contract extension on Thursday. Reilly’s new deal gives him $250,000 up front and he took less in 2015 to help keep the corps of the team together. That said, at the time of signing, No. 13 is set be the highest paid player in the CFL for the 2017 and 2018 seasons at over $500,000 per year. That’s the price it took for Edmonton to keep their star QB.
Important for the Eskimos to lock-up arguably the best QB in the CFL.

Don't hold your breath on that one. The TiCats just need to offer Collaros a fair extension before the season starts(350-400k).
Collaros would be nuts not to take it considering he's coming off major knee surgery. And the fact that he's missed games due to various injuries the last two years.
After hearing Zack on TSN 1150 multiple times...I really think he likes it in the hammer.
There is also the possibility that some NFL team will take notice of Collaros - and give him a shot, and even though he will not exactly be a young QB prospect to them; a team in need that has the guts or vision to give a good CFL QB a shot is not out of the question. Collaros, Reilly and Mitchell are all probably 10x better than that stiff Houston trotted out in the play-offs last year. Warren Moon & Dieter Brock (plus Flutie NFL redux) got NFL calls when they were older QBs; but the NFL seems to have greatly cooled on CFL QBs getting a shot in the past number of years = which is great IMO - their loss and good for the CFL.
This plays into my theory there should be a maximum salary. The QBs are always going to get the lion's share of any increase in the cap.
A $200K signing bonus? Wowza. Is that a record for contracts since the turn of the century?
BTW, I hope James Franklin succeeds since he went to nearby Mizzou (just like OVA's favorite player Henry Josey), but he's not ready to be a starter yet. Needs at least another year as a backup, and maybe 2.
