National DL Kwaku Boateng has extended through 2020 with a big salary increase that was well deserved after an excellent season that drew NFL workouts.

The 23-year-old went from making minimum salary on his first contract to national starter money on the new deal. Boateng received a $50,000 signing bonus and $175,000 in “hard money” for 2019 with $30,000 in 2020 for a $380,000 total plus incentives, per sources. It’s potentially the largest jump in salary for a Canadian player who entered the league on an entry level deal.

As a rookie, Boateng displayed the ability to get to opposing quarterbacks even as a rotational player. During his sophomore season, Boateng earned a starting role playing 16 games and recording nine sacks earning team Most Outstanding Canadian honours.

That strong campaign drew NFL interest as Boateng worked out for the New York Jets, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, and Washington Redskins in December.

Sunderland going nuts in free agency. Harris, Elingson and Sir V all cost big bucks; Ricky Collins & Devaris Daniels added at receiver; Larry Dean and Santos-Knox for their D wouldn't be cheap either. Not sure how they are going to manage being under the $M$ - not like the retirement of Sherritt or the loss of Duke Williams to the NFL or Grymes to BC would mean that much savings ?, and Harris' new QB contract is probably around what they were giving Reilly anyways ? Might have to be some other vets chopped there

Lots of entry level contracts coming to fill rosters in BC and Edmonton. Great to have talented players, but also tough to win without depth in football.
It's us vs the rest of the country

Pretty sure the cap is going up. It's not going to be the doom and gloom some are expecting.

Maybe, but I've read in a couple of places that the cap is expected to stay at $5.2 million for 2019.

Former Argo QB Logan Kilgore, who was out of the league last year, has signed with Edmonton. He was 63 for 114 with 2 TDs and 10 interceptions in three seasons with the Argos and Hamilton. Unless that TD to Int ratio improves dramatically, I don't think he will last long in TC.

The reasoning below is nuts. Having experience and loving the home city does not make one automatically good at the job. While I am not an avid believer in OV's, GOB theory, this definitely qualifies as an example.
At first glance, the prospect might not have the green-and-gold-clad fan base jumping for joy, given the disappointing 4-14 record in his final season with the Eskimos. His 8-28 record as Als GM has been far from stellar, too. But the CEO isn’t the football guy. Instead, his role is to connect with the fans, the business community, the media and to help the football guys succeed. Reed absolutely checks all of those boxes.

First and foremost, he knows football. By comparison, Rhodes, while undeniably a good man, had more experience in the ketchup and beer businesses, with his biggest success coming from 11 years as a highly respected Reebok executive.

Reed played in the Eskimos secondary for five years and was a divisional all-star before retiring early due to a nasty neck injury.

For the past 17 years, his coaching and management career have taken him from Hamilton to Toronto, to Ottawa, to Winnipeg, to Saskatchewan, back to Winnipeg, to Edmonton as head coach, and then on to Montreal.

All having one constant, however, with Edmonton being Reed’s home. His wife and two kids have never left the city the Reed family loves and, even when employed elsewhere, the 46-year-old former Eskimos player has spent each and every season here. That matters. It matters a lot.

The Eskimos have resigned former Argo National FB Alex Dupuis, who played for Toronto from 2014 to 2016, and International Mic'hael Brooks, who had previously played for the Riders and Lions.

Fred Stamps has signed a one day contract in order to retire as an Eskimo. He played eight of his nine years in the CFL with Edmonton before finishing with the Als in 2015. During an All-Star career he had 8411 yards in receptions.
