Ricky Ray is back. Like, really, really back this time.
As we reported here at CFL.ca back in March, Argos’ quarterback Ricky Ray is back to one hundred per cent health for the first time in two years. At least, that’s what the veteran pivot said at the time, holding back just slightly when he said “there’s still a little uncertainty.” That, apparently has been erased with his performance during the first week of Argonauts’ camp.
Receiver Kevin Elliott, who saw Ray return and try to lead the team with a still weakened shoulder last October, has noticed a difference in passes coming his way. “It’s spinning a little faster,” said Elliott of the ball. “Gettin’ to us a little faster. He’s actually got some oomph behind the ball, which is a great thing.”
With those lingering questions about Ray’s shoulder put to rest, there is another big one for the Argos in 2016: Can they keep Ray upright, well-protected and healthy for an entire season?
The battle for backup QB continues.
http://www.torontosun.com/2016/06/05...-shape-at-campAdrian McPherson is what you’d call a pro’s pro, one of those high character, no maintenance, highly motivated individuals who will do whatever is asked in whatever situation and never question is role.
At this stage in his career and given how little playing time he’s experienced in recent years, it’s highly doubtful McPherson will be asked to lead a team for an entire season. But if asked, he’ll never back down from the challenge. The arm strength remains, his ability to make plays with his feet remains, but he lacks reps and ultimately the Argos are Ricky Ray’s team and the Argos will only go as Ray goes. ...
McPherson is in a battle to serve as Ray’s backup with Toronto’s two pre-season games, beginning with Saturday’s exhibition opener at BMO Field against Hamilton, serving as the true measuring sticks to separate McPherson from Logan Kilgore and Cody Fajardo.
Kilgore is holding on field goals, while McPherson is likely to emerge as Toronto’s short-yardage quarterback when the chains need to be moved. ...
In football parlance, McPherson is asked to manage a game, make plays when plays are available, get players in and out of the huddle quickly and not make mistakes, physical or mental.
Van Zyl likes what he sees of the team in TC.
http://www.torontosun.com/2016/06/05...-training-campWhen it comes to toughness, there aren’t many as tough as Van Zeyl, who dealt with his share of injuries last season.
No one knows what the Argos will look like when the regular season kicks off on June 23, but Van Zeyl likes how the team is rounding into form. Ray has already found his rhythm; the offensive line — despite the injury absence to rookie Sean McEwen — seems to be place; barring more injury, Brandon Whitaker is the incumbent at running back and the receiving unit is further along now that most of the team’s Americans have one year under their belt.
“It seems like the offence is starting to click,’’ Van Zeyl said. “The defence looks great, but the defence always looks great because they can play more freely and have a little less structure than we do. They just come off the ball hard. It’s really hard to tell this early, but it seems like we’ve got a pretty good group of guys this year.” ...
Van Zeyl’s off-season regimen has paid dividends. “I’m moving around out there,’’ he said. “I feel fast, feel pretty agile, a little sore here and there, but other than that this is the best I’ve felt about a week into training camp in probably three or four years.”
Van Zeyl doesn’t get to see Ray deliver the ball in real time, but he does see how accurate and how strong Ray releases the football when Van Zeyl sits down to review film. “You watch how he throws the ball and you see Ricky’s vision, you just can’t put a number on it,’’ Van Zeyl said. “It’s pretty impressive to watch him.”

That's a great article with tons of interesting stuff (a possible future shared practice facility with Ryerson!?!?)
Thank goodness for Frankie Z., he's really coming around.

I know, when I read about a practice facility in the city with Ryerson I was pretty excited. That would be amazing!!!! Let's see what happens.
CFL alive and well all others can go to Hell!
I see import offensive lineman Fonoti has been activated from the suspended list. Don't tell OV.
Where is Ryerson planning on building a facility? Certainly, no space where they presently are.

I've always liked Frank and his stories he used to tell at Erindale years ago. That was a great read and nice that he pulled no punches.

Hence why I didn't give it much thought. Didn't Zicarelli also state the team could go back to Mississauga ?
I will say that IMO Ryerson should move their University to the Portlands. They have no room for buildings and such as is; everything's all over the place.

I have not had a chance to get out to training camp yet. I see Kackert is on the roster and have seen him there in the videos I've watched from training camp. Any one know how he is doing? I hope he makes the team and can play when needed. Will always be a Kackert fan.
