Sorry, but I don't buy into this at all. The big breweries aren't stupid and they don't hire amateurs to oversee them. Brewmasters are well aware of what the craft brewers are up to and know they have to compete with them. It's a high stakes game for the consumer dollar and these guys know their stuff.
I went to a beer focus group a long time ago and there were guys bragging about how much they knew about beer and how they could detect their beer from 50 feet away. They put five beers on the table in a blind taste test and none of these guys could tell the difference. The only thing that was a bigger joke was the fools they were making of themselves trying to explain it all away. These guys would call draft "skunk piss" and they didn't even know what draft was.
One Christmas, I was hosting a party so I figured I`d buy Heinies to please the majority. They did nothing for me, so seeing as I live across the street from a liquor store I decided to conduct an experiment in the summer. I tried all 7? of their discount beers and settled on a winner. So not only did it cost far less than the more expensive brand but it better suited my personal taste.
All I know is any beer, craft or mainstream is not going to be helped by being bottled or canned so I think much of this craft stuff is BS. Heard a funny line on the TSN Overdrive show with Mike Copeland. One of the hosts said they should offer 15 dollar craft beer and the Argo tailgate would be swarmed with hipsters
