Glad to see that too. I hope they beat the crap out of Moochacho's team in 2023.

They can still, of course, lose to the Argonauts.

Pretty predictable - same old CFL $hite; I was pulling for Dyce, but if he is in on that hire, then he deserves a losing season. Maybe he can hire Jason Maas and Jarious Jackson too? Gee, let me guess what their offence will look like.

HC Bob Dyce continues to round out his coaching staff. 3 Down Nation reports that Ottawa has hired veteran coach Barron Miles to over see the defence for the 2023 season, thus ending Mike Benevedes stay in our Nations Capitol.

Benevides is a good coach. I am really surprised by this move. Defence was not their problem in 2022.

I heard that people around the league were shocked when Miles got fired. He's well regarded, and it was only a matter of time before he resurfaced.

I'm just anxiously waiting to hear where the likes of Jason Maas & LaPo end up. Imagine those 2 teamed up = an unstoppable CFL offence.

I suspect that Lapolice will stay put at TSN for at least the next year. That could also be a potential landing spot for Benevides who also previously spent time at TSN.

Many a good coach in many a sport is gone when a new HC comes on the scene. Sad but true.

Ottawa has resigned Canadian world record FG kicker Lewis Ward through 2024.

Ward is a decent kicker but don't ask him to hit anything beyond 50 yards. He doesn't seem to be quite as reliable overall as he was when he first entered the league.

To be fair to Ward he was 20/20 on 40+ yards during the streak, hit on a 53 yarder during the streak and later hit a Ottawa all-time record 56 yarder, all in 2019. I have also seen hit from over 50 yards since then, although that is not his strength. On the other hand, he has not been as accurate in 2022 as previously. However, Ward still leads in career FG accuracy. Boris Bede on the other hand, suffers from the opposite reputation, ranking 10th all-time in accuracy, but not being considered accurate in part because he tries more long ones due to his strong leg, but also because he has missed some crucial easy ones. Reputations about people are often leave out the nuances.

He’s made 61 straight field goal attempts. During that time, Ward has made kicks in all weather and from all distances, including 20-for-20 from 40-plus yards.

Ward's consecutive field goal streak continued into the 2019 season, including in a game on 5 July 2019 where he made a career-long field goal of 53 yards.[15] On 17 August 2019, Ward was wide right on a 34-yard field goal attempt, ending his consecutive field goal streak at 69 made.[16] Later in the season, on 19 October 2019, Ward set a new franchise record by successfully connecting on a 56-yard field goal, the longest in Ottawa professional football history

His numbers over 45 are actually not very good. It's no secret that the kickers that attempt the highest amount of long FG attempts have the worst percentages in the league, that being Bede and Lauther. But I would take them over a kicker that can't regularly reach from 50 any day. I think Lauther is the best kicker in the league.

Might have been the case back when he smashed all-time pro football FG kicking records; but not anymore, and he has become more like a typical FG kicker with inconsistency.

Devonte Dedmon and his dangerous kick return skills, and Masoli, if he could stay healthy and win some games, would be their 2 biggest name stars now IMO.

Ottawa brought Canadian OL Drew Desjarlais back to the CFL after a year in the NFL. He signed a two year deal that earns him $250,000 and $260,000, making him the highest paid OL in the CFL.

I was surprised to see this signing. I didn't think Desjarlais would return to the CFL so soon but I definitely didn't see him ending up in Ottawa.

Hopefully all that salary that went to Desjarlais will prevent Ottawa from signing Gittens.
