I'm going to Ottawa for charity work for Canada150 and all the hotel rooms are gone. Our host has a block of room I have access to for $700/night minimum two nights.

For the Grey Cup week we have booked a suite at the Novotel next to the Weston Hotel - Grey Cup HQ. We're paying $300. All the hotels have rooms too with exception to CFL HQ. Travelocity shows room between $150 upwards depending on distance and quality. If I were younger or more flexible, I'd look at some of the nice looking B&Bs. They're less than $100.

Here's some background on Redblacks' signee Armon Binn.

    College career[edit]

As a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bearcats, Binns finished the 2009 season with 61 receptions for 888 yards and 11 touchdowns.[1] He was on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award during the 2009 season. He scored a touchdown on a 29-yard pass from Tony Pike for the go-ahead score with 33 seconds left in the 2009 River City Rivalry against the University of Pittsburgh, which the Bearcats won 45-44.
Binns started all 12 games as a senior and posted a team-high 75 receptions for 1,101 yards with 10 touchdowns. He also led the Big East in receptions, receiving yards, receptions per game (6.2) and receiving yards per game (91.8)[2]
    Professional career[edit]

    Cincinnati Bengals[edit]

Binns was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad on September 20, 2011. He saw game action in the 2012 season, playing in seven games (five as a starter) with 18 receptions for 210 receiving yards and one touchdown.[3]
    Miami Dolphins[edit]

Binns was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins on December 10, 2012.[4] Playing for the Dolphins the remainder of the season, Binns caught six passes for 67 yards.[5]
On July 28, 2013, Binns suffered a torn ACL and MCL during the Dolphins' training camp, forcing him to miss the entire 2013 season.[6] On July 31, 2013, Binns was waived/injured by the Miami Dolphins.[7] Binns was placed on Injured/Reserve on August 1, 2013. The Dolphins released Binns on August 26, 2014.[8]
    Kansas City Chiefs[edit]

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Binns to their practice squad on September 8, 2014.[9] On December 31, 2014, Binns signed a futures contract with the Chiefs.[

Ottawa 2017 Grey Cup selling plenty of tickets

Six weeks from the start of the CFL season and more than six months until the league’s title is decided, Grey Cup fever is already high.

The Redblacks announced Wednesday fewer than 6,000 tickets remain for the 105th Grey Cup Game, which will be played Nov. 26 at TD Place.
“We’re humbled by the excitement for the Grey Cup in Ottawa,” OSEG Sports president Jeff Hunt said in a statement. “Not just in our region but across Canada.”
Since last November, Redblacks season ticket holders and those who purchased a five-game ticket package have been able to buy Grey Cup tickets. Season ticket holders from around the league were given the opportunity starting last month.
The response has led to more than 29,000 ticket sales for the classic.
“We still have great seats available in multiple locations at various price ranges,” OSEG VP of ticketing and marketing John Mathers said in the statement, stressing the goal of selling out the game. “The secondary object of (the sales) approach is to help fill TD Place for every Redblacks home game we are on track for a record-setting season ticket base of more than 17,000.”
To purchase season tickets or a package, and get a chance to buy early Grey Cup game tickets, fans are asked to visit OttawaRedblacks.com.

Ottawa has promoted Jeremy Synder to assistant GM to replace Brock Sunderland who took the Eskimos' GM job.

The club also announced that Jean-Marc Edmé will take on Snyder’s former role as Director of Player Personnel. Edmé was previously Player Personnel Coordinator.
“Both Jeremy and Jean-Marc are well-deserving of these promotions,” said REDBLACKS General Manager Marcel Desjardins. “Their work ethic, skill set, dedication, and humility embody what the REDBLACKS are all about.”

In this article kicker Zach Medeiros recalls in detail the last play of Ottawa's Grey Cup win and how long it took to process the victory. The article also discuss his path to the CFL.

“Third down in overtime. I was holding onto Chris Milo, who was injured and that play felt like an eternity. Everything seemed like it was in slow-motion. You could tell the play was going to be incomplete, but I waited for the ball to actually hit the ground. My eyes were fixated on it. Then people were running onto the field and confetti was coming down and we had won.” ...
Still, it is virtually impossible to process a championship victory right away. All of the work that went into it. All of the things that had to go right for your team to win.The real realization tends to arrive over a period of time. You could be driving in a car or walking down the street, or perhaps, bringing the Grey Cup back to your hometown and the high school you attended that helped to make you into a player good enough to have a shot at winning it all in the Canadian Football League. ...

Medeiros admits, the trip to St. Thomas and St. Joseph’s, where he was known for booting a 54-yard field goal and also for catching a pass on a trick play called “Kicker Special” that helped to win an A/AA OFSAA title, gave the words Grey Cup champion new meaning for him.
“The past couple of days here have helped everything to soak in … because even after the championship game, it’s all just a whirlwind and you need those weeks and months to go by. It’s amazing. No words for it.”
Medeiros is not a wily vet yet and didn’t have to wait years to find himself hoisting a trophy over his head. In fact, he was still getting used to his place in the CFL when the Redblacks began their magical run back to the championship game.
“This was the first year that I was on an active roster for the entire year.”
READ MORE: More bad news for Calgary Stampeders’ offensive line
After leaving southwestern Ontario for the Université de Montréal, Medeiros wound up returning to play for the Western Mustangs, taking over from the all-time points leader in Canadian University Football, Liram Hajrullahu.
Medeiros also spent time with the London Beefeaters and was drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2014 CFL Draft.
He didn’t end up catching on with the Eskimos, but an early-season injury in Ottawa in 2016 gave him a shot with the Redblacks and Medeiros ended up with a contract and he will soon own a shiny Grey Cup ring.
“We get those soon,” Medeiros said with a smile.
Looking back, the Redblacks had taken all the right steps, they were just missing that final one after coming within 3:22 of winning in 2015. They exorcised that demon in the playoffs last November and that had the entire team believing they could just a little bit further.
“I knew the sky was the limit,” Medeiros said thinking about last season. “But I think it was the moment after we beat Edmonton in the Eastern final. It was just crazy.” ...
That game was followed by one of the wildest finishes in CFL history as Ottawa outlasted Calgary 39-33 in overtime at BMO Field in Toronto.
The emotions of being in your first year and going to a Grey Cup. You can’t ask for a better scenario than that.”

Ottawa has signed KR/WR Daje Johnson.

Johnson, from nearby Pflugerville Hendrickson High School, spent time last season with the Atlanta Falcons organization in the NFL, but never caught on with the official roster. He attended the Texas Pro Day in April in hopes of catching the eye of more NFL scouts, and now he’ll try to revive his career north of the border.
Johnson, who also memorably released a rap album during his college playing days, was one of the most exciting kick returners in the Big 12 during his time on the 40 Acres. He returned two punts back for touchdowns in four seasons and registered a total of 396 yards on punt returns. He also had 976 kickoff return yards. As a receiver, he he caught 85 passes for 837 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 459 yards in his career.

Tim Baines discusses the many changes Ottawa has undergone since its Grey Cup win.

From the lineup the Redblacks fielded in their 39-33 overtime win over the Calgary Stampeders last November, four starting defenders (Abdul Kanneh, Mitchell White, Damaso Munoz and Forrest Hightower) are gone.
Five offensive starters (Henry Burris, J’Michael Deane, Ernest Jackson, Kienan Lafrance and Khalil Paden) are also no longer with the team; and the same goes for kick returner Jamill Smith. Star receiver Chris Williams, who sat out the Grey Cup because of a season-ending knee injury, will also be wearing a different uniform this season — that of the B.C. Lions.
Comparing what the Redblacks have to the start of the 2016 season, they’re minus six starters on each of offence and defence, along with long snapper Kevin Malcolm and kicker Chris Milo. ...

With Williams and Jackson gone, there will be a huge battle at the receiver position. The Redblacks have brought in free agents Kenny Shaw, Diontae Spencer and Tori Gurley to compete for spots alongside 1,000-yard pass catchers Greg Ellingson and Brad Sinopoli. Juron Criner also looked strong when given an opportunity last year.
Added to the mix are some talented rookie receivers.
With Kanneh (Hamilton), Jeff Richards (NFL, Carolina), Hightower (Edmonton) and White (NFL, Philadelphia) all gone, there will be a battle for positions in the defensive backfield. Jerrell Gavins played at a high level before he was moved to SAM linebacker so there’s always the chance he could switch back.
Running back is another interesting battle with Mossis Madu Jr., William Powell and Shakir Bell among those in the mix to be the starter. Rookie Marion Grice is also competing for a spot.
“Grice is good,” said Campbell. “The other three have already proven they can play well. When you think about it, William Powell is here because of injuries we had … Chevon Walker and those guys. (Mossis) Madu is here because of injuries we had. This is probably the most depth we’ve had of proven running backs.”
With the retirement of Henry Burris, Trevor Harris comes into camp as the clear starter. Also in camp are former Calgary Stampeder Drew Tate, former NFLer Ryan Lindley and Brock Jensen, who played last season when both Burris and Harris were injured.
Harris is anxious to stand behind centre and utilize some of the offensive weapons. Training camp, for him, is where it all starts.

Taking advantage of the 2017 Grey Cup, Ottawa sells 17,500 Season Tickets

    CFL.CA STAFF
    SHARE
OTTAWA — After selling out their entire 2016 season en route to Grey Cup Championship, the Ottawa REDBLACKS have set a franchise record with 17,493 season tickets sold to date, eclipsing the previous record of more than 17,000 set in 2014.

“We’ve hit a perfect storm,” said Jeff Hunt, President, OSEG Sports. “As reigning Grey Cup champions and hosting this year’s championship game, interest is higher than ever, and until June 8, the only way to reserve a seat for the Grey Cup is to be a full or partial season ticket holder. That’s really fueled sales, but so has our game day experience. RNation loves to party on game days and the players love playing for them.”

Fans interested in purchasing Grey Cup tickets before they go on sale to the general public still have an opportunity to do so by purchasing a 3-game Home Opener Ticket Pack or full season tickets before June 8th. Single game tickets go on sale Thursday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. starting at $31 at OttawaREDBLACKS.com.

The REDBLACKS will host the Calgary Stampeders at TD Place to open the 2017 CFL Season in a rematch of the 104th Grey Cup. With 25 sellouts and over 735,000 fans attending games since football returned to the nation’s capital, TD Place could see attendance surpass the 1,000,000 mark when the 105th Grey Cup kicks off on November 26.

Fewer than 5,000 tickets remain for the 105th Grey Cup presented by Shaw.

We love the Residence Inn. Our daughter has Autism, and when we travel as a full family, we're fortunate to be able to afford the luxury of a 2 bdrm suite. The free breakfast alone makes the bill palatable. We've often found Mon -Thurs. free suppers and beer and wine across the USA. Big Marriott fans as a result.
