Year 2 of the CFL/ESPN broadcast deal is looking better

"ESPN to televise 20 CFL games in 2015"

The math doesn't quite add up (they list seventeen regular season games and mention that the semi-finals, finals, and Cup will also be broadcast), but this is a nice improvement over last year, when they didn't show anything in August at all. "Toronto Argonaut" fans will get to see four games (two regular season, Eastern final, Grey Cup) on ESPN this year.

Good to see the league getting more games.

Ironic that in a city that craves American attention, it is the little ol' Argos of the Canadian Football League who will likely be on national TV in the US more than any other local pro sports franchise this year.

Argos and CFL seem to be in the ascendency and long may it be so.

Agreed. But try telling the "unbelievers" that the CFL often gets higher ratings in the US than MLS, or that the Argos are on American television more often than the Raptors, or even that the CFL is the number 2 sports property in Canada-- the reaction is the same, disbelief. But I also sense that things are starting to turn around for Argos, and the CFL is definitely "trending".

Pre Season games will air on ESPN3; 20 regular season games will air on one of the tv networks (ESPN, 2, and News). We're locked in with ESPN for a few more years, so hopefully they'll start airing more games on the main networks over time.

Full 2016 CFL on Espn tv schedule - 20 games in total on tv (they could potentially add more); the rest will air on ESPN3

Don't know if the ESPN year 2 deal is "better", that's the same number of games as last season 20. Just like last year there will only be televising ONE game after August.

This is an older thread so Year 2 was last year which was better than Year 1. Year 3 looks to be on par with Year 2.

This makes sense, though, as once college football starts, ESPN will have more than enough football to deal with.
