It really doesnt matter what defensive strategies are employed when so manynplayers are playing hurtbor missing for large streyches of games its gonna be painful. I noticed that Stubs was running a wide spaced 30 defence which basically tells the offense to run the ball as its gonna be difficult to pass. He chose that alternative to take pressure off his injured DBs unfortunately his two best rinstopping LBs were also injured, Greenwood and McFaddens absences really hurt us. The stamps now routinely use the wide spaced 30 as well, copying Stubs but their guys are healthy. The difference and their offense gives the defense a break by running more than 2 plays In a series. Gives the defensive players a breather. Fix the offense and the D will take care of itself. Continuity is importand lets see what some of our new DBs and LBs can do when they are healthy.

And the Willy trade was a buzzkill for the defense. They had just played a really good game and the morale got a quick kick in the chopscwith heaths trade. What kind of message does that send to your defensive team? Play well and you will be traded?

Reggiemac, seriously are you a former (or current) member of the Argo defence? Your defence of Stubler defies reason otherwise.

Do you honestly think Stubler is the first this season, let alone in football history to run a 30 front defense ?

I agree that was the last spike in this crazy season. Hopefully that trade and the other moves were run by at least Copeland first so there wouldn't be any surprises when he picked up the morning paper. I know if I was an owner I would be asking the question "are you sure you want to make this move". "Can't we just stay the course and build on the young players".

Now if there was pressure from Copeland and the Owners to do something to shake things up, to try and get into the Grey Cup, then that's an another story altogether. Might explain the questionable moves.

What a huge opportunity blown. How hard was it to make the Playoffs in the weak East this year? They should have been playing for the Grey Cup on their home-turf. No excuses. It's what the CFL wanted and envisioned. But not only did they blow it, they also gave away their consolation prize for sucking. And it will probably be the first overall pick in the 2017 Draft! For a guy who would have been free this off season. Terrible, terrible. Bruuutal.

The team will not be able to keep this regime and be able to explain it away.

The Toronto Media has completely written off this team, and it's the Toronto media this team so desperately needs.

They had a shot at forcing them to pay attention. Not now. Not next year either. It'll take a herculean effort to right this ship.

It'll take new eyes, new energies and new ideas. They had better be good ones. The future of the franchise depends on it.

    Changes are coming.

They had played a good game, but many of the games prior to that (except vs BC) they did not play well. We'll never know if the game vs Hamilton was isolated or their play (w/ Heath) would've continued.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    This = bang-on !

I hope changes are coming, at least - New GM, new HC & coaching staff, and plenty of new players for TC competition. And maybe some new & improved marketing

Selling the Argos to the Toronnawannabe media AND getting more fan support is going to be real tough; not impossible, just real tough sledding - that won't happen over-nite or in one year. It's going to take time & effort there, so some patience is needed.

JG you are bang on from Ottawa.
A complete house cleaning is required in order to appease the already depleting fan base and the mostly Rogers based anti CFL/Argo media here.
The ownership has already created a mess now with the GC scenario, we cannot afford another dealing with the on the field product going forward.

While SM and JB should definitely be going at the end of the season, I'd avoid using the reason "to appease the already depleting fan base," because I don't think in every circumstance that the fan knows better. Just because they may be right here doesn't mean they are right all the time. It's a slippery label to apply here.

SM and JB should be going not to appease the fans, but because it is the right thing to do from a football standpoint.

I don't believe the damage this year was so bad that the media won't pay attention next year. There are all kinds of things that haven't happened yet that will influence how much of a profile the team gets next year. There's no need to throw in the towel on 2017 being a positive year, both on and off the field.

100% agree. Sports orgs have to make decisions based on what's best for the org, not on what fans demand. If they did the latter, coaches and players would be fired every week. And guys like Ronnie Pfeffer would be given 10-year contracts.

The fans don't always know better, but neither do the Owners, Coaches, Gm's etc, this season is a perfect example of that.

The question now is will the Owners and Copeland make the right decision here ?

Swayze was definitely touted for a 10-year contract, that is until Pfeffer was declared to be someone who should replace Swayze and absolutely could not be allowed to get away.

Touted maybe but he always wanted to take another shot at the NFL. Which he did and failed at this season.

I fear you may have missed the point, Ron. Which was that if mgmt ran the team to please fans, it might have offered a 10-yr contract to a guy who two yrs later is out of football.

Yeah, that; plus CFL contracts aren't guaranteed anyways. Sign a player to any length of contract you like, and he can be cut for poor performance or other (*cough - scapegoat for clueless coaches - * cough) reasons anyhow.
