I agree with you here, ridiculous that the campaigning process covers almost half of the term.

I agree. The process is stupid. People start running for office 17 months before the actual election. No one should be able to declare they are running before June 1st. Then have one day in August where every state votes in a primary.

That is a good and practical idea that would make most people happier. I like it a lot! But... it would violate the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, which, of course, renders it moot.
