Is this becoming a problem ?

Seems like the Riders aren't the only team trying to start 6 Nat's.

My guess is that 1 of Cote, Durant or Charbonneau-Campeau will be replacing an INT throughout the game, but I agree. If the depth chart isn't going to list 7 starters out of 24 (not 25), then it should not be allowed to be put out there.

It is indeed becoming a problem. Teams should be required to list the designated internationals on depth charts; that's the only way to really know, especially since the charts sometimes show more than 12 positions on offence.

The Stamps started at least 8 NIs last game - rookie NI Singleton played at MLB in place of injured import starter Reed (i.e. they did not air-lift in and hand the job to an import for the sake of it); they were before just starting one NI on D - a DT spot - same as they did last year; even if they have to go with 2 import O-linemen, they have Messam at RB, Cote at H-back, and several quality NI receivers (Parker, Charbonneau-Campeau, Durant and this year's draft pick Brescacin) = they should have no problem having 6 NI "starters" on offence.

Dont see the need to get bent out of shape if a depth chart or the TV graphic does not show the proper starting line-up; however, I agree with Paul that teams should have to publish the DIs on their roster for game-time for anyone to see; some teams might try to pull a fast one by subbing in DIs for NIs - I thought the Riders were getting away with it, but seems they were not. Watch the Stumps players on the field tonight and it might be apparent if they follow the ratio/roster rule ?

I sure would like to see TSN or somebody announce each team's 2 healthy scratches (on the 46 man roster but not dressed) before each game.

This is ridiculous. The Riders have to be fined for this as it is the premise of the league, the CANADIAN Football League. Poor job by the league not fining them.

Also, credit has to be given to AngeloV and OVA for bringing this to light. As a board, we should try and keep up with this and stay on top of the media to be on this.

If I were commissioner the Riders would be fined $50K for this. If it happens again, $200K. A third time would be an automatic forfeit of the game played.

    CHEATERS!

Is there an in-game penalty as per the rules? If it wasn't enforced, then the officials need to be reprimanded.

Should be a good excuse for all the usual suspects at riderfans to start another poll calling for reducing the ratio or doing away with it outright; damn nuisance thing anyways, forcing a football gawd like Jones to have to plays some no talent Canadians - they'd be undefeated and in cruise control on the way to a GC parade, if not for that silly ratio. GOBs should unite to stop this picking on the poor Riders.

Wonder if Wally caught wind of this after AV's inquires to the CFL or from somebody reading here - was game film sent in by the Lions to the league?

Interesting, and meanwhile, the 2 teams (Argos & Ottawa) that have started/played more of them nuisance NIs than all other CFL teams this season basically, have about the 2 best records in the league (Ottawa should easily have won that overtime game vs. the Stamps, and could easily have won that game vs, the Riders - with raw rookie Jensen forced to play when Trevor Harris went down)

They should have to forfeit their first round pick for this. That would be a fair punishment IMO. Either that or suspend Jones.

I read on Twitter that it is a 25 yard penalty but I have no idea whether that is actually true or not.

Definitely not a deterrent. Hopefully a 2nd violation is treated much more seriously. The game officials also deserve blame for not catching it and giving an on field penalty immediately.

Yup, and while Orrdige did get off to a slow start, he's cleaned up a few things as of late, so hopefully he can do something with this. Loss of draft picks or $100,000+ fines. Something like that.

A penalty of that magnitude would be a significant and welcome deterrent, but I doubt Orridge has the power to impose something like that without owners of all teams agreeing. Not sure I'd want him to have absolute authority anyway. Pete Rozelle did, supposedly, and some baseball commissioners back in the day were granted the power to act "in the best interests of the game," but nowadays there are so many business considerations that the days of any commissioner being able to act unilaterally are probably done.
