This is logical. Also, the Riders have made such a heavy (and drastic as it turned out) investment in Jones that inertia is in effect.
The natives could still become terribly restless along the way of course.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired international defensive back Fred Bennett and national defensive back Jeff Hecht from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for two negotiation list players.
Bennett lost his starting job in Calgary, so good to see him get another opportunity. Don't know much about Hecht, but the Riders do need some Canadians.

    John Chiles just got released.

I wanted him to re-sign here after his NFL stint but was returning from a concussion and it seemed like we had lots of options at receiver. He's familiar with this offence and if he can return to his old form then I do think he'll be an upgrade over Miles and Bates.

Hard to tell at this point. Barker might not want to take that path again. Wish he didn't leave but I'm not sure I'd bring him in now.

I wouldn't be against it. What's the worst that can happen? If they decide he can't make them better, they release him.

This is my feeling as well. I can't believe that the Riders can't use a solid receiver like John Chiles.

They may have decided that this year is a throw away season, and are trying to get their younger receivers as many reps as possible. I'm sure they looked for a trading partner first.

"Extended Training Camp" I think it's called, but yeah throw away season, gotta see what the youth can do. Hey, maybe that's why Jones thought it was okay to have 20 extra guys around lol.

I spoze he might be better than our seventh- or eighth-best INT receivers, but so what? I think Chiles is overrated based on his first year here, when he was very good, as well as his speed and his being a cousin of Rocket Ismail. His second year with the Argos, he dropped a lot of catchable passes. His first few games with Sask, same thing. No harm in seeing if he can squeeze past Miles on the depth chart, but I hope we don't see any receiver that far down the chart play another game this season.

DB Ed Gainey has signed an extension through 2019 to stay with the Riders.
The team announced the contract in a news release on Wednesday, saying its policy prevented the release of the financial details.
The 26-year-old has been with the Roughriders since February, when he signed with the team as a free agent.
Last season, he played 17 regular season games and registered 49 defensive tackles, seven special tackles and three interceptions. He also had one fumble recovery that he returned 51 yards for a touchdown.
Prior to joining the Roughriders, Gainey spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, before spending the next two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Riders have resigned Nationals Kelvin Muamba and Jordan Reaves and signed International Daniel Thomas.

Thomas (6’2 – 225) played 52 regular season games through four seasons with the Miami Dolphins after originally being selected by the team in the 2nd round (62nd overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. Along the way the Florida native picked up 1,480 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 409 carries while adding 412 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 55 receptions.
Before going pro, Thomas spent two seasons at Kansas State where he was named First Team All-Big 12 in 2009 and Second Team All-Big 12 in 2010.
Reaves (6’4 – 220) returns to the Riders after spending 2016 with the Green and White where he picked up two special teams tackles in five regular season games. The 26-year-old Winnipeg native was deemed a free agent after finishing the season on the teams practice roster.
Muamba (6’1 – 210) also re-joins the Riders after originally signing with the team’s practice roster in October, 2016 where he remained for the final four weeks of the season. The 23-year-old previously spent three seasons with the Laurier Golden Hawks where he caught 57 passes for 621 yards and one touchdown.
He also spent time with the Montreal Alouettes.

DL Jonathan Newsome has extended with the Riders through 2018.
