Economics of the CFL optics aren't good

Should the CFL consider raising the salary cap by $1 million and/or guaranteeing veterans players salarys for all 18 games?

The Argos didn't need to penny pinch with Raymond. They've got $12 million from Grey Cup gate, plus $15 million from Feds for Grey Cup, too.

Optics are terrible in TO. Hard to make case locally for the professupional franchise that it needs to save $50k on a deal like this! Or is just the beginning of the end?

Could it just be that the Argos released Raymond because they were unhappy with his performance?
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force

If it was performance based, send him to the PR. Cutting him is
Being penny wise and pound foolish.

This looks like a real league issue. Raymond, Muamba and Underwood to name a few. To me it makes no sense for top players to be dropped for $50k. I grew up with a team that overspent and often poorly spent. If the economics don't make sense, then they don't make sense. Argos spend more $50k for positive ads. Why remind people just to save $50k.

I wish they hadn't cut him, but I really don't think it had anything to do with cash. As for the PR, I somehow doubt any team in the league has a 33 year old on their PR. Wasn't going to happen, and he likely would not have accepted it.

Why would the league raise their expenditures, and cut their profits (or increase their losses), just to appease fans who apparently can't abide a player being cut in mid-season? Many of those same fans are all too quick to demand that guys get cut on the spot for making a single mistake. Like dropping one pass.

ray went on 6-gm IR as we all know (thats a massive unpredicted big cap savings), raymond's release is performance driven as well as contract

OF COURSE, that's ALL this is about Ravi; again - these are professional football people running the Argos, and they "just want to win", and again too - it's silly for know-nothing-about football joe average fan to dare question ANY football decision these football experts make.

Raymond will be replaced by a veritable superstar at OLB (are there any NFL cuts air-lift flights running yet?); Barker and Stubler will have about a dozen far better players to chose from to insert into the line-up; this D doesn't need an aging, over the hill vet who has been terrible playing this year, and besides there is soooo much CFL experience on this Argos D ; last game, where Raymond had a pick 6 for a TD = pffft. ;o)

Ray came off the six-game after three weeks. There is no salary saving there.

Sounds like Kent Austin's treatment of Tiquan Underwood. Now there's a GM/Head Coach who's running a team with the sole purpose of winning the Grey Cup and putting out the best product that can achieve those results AND entertain fans. What a concept?

Yeah, because Austin cut him after his first drop, 26 games into his CFL career), the way you wanted to cut Cross after his first. Your comparisons make as much sense as the rest of your posts.

It shows the Hamilton fans that the team has high standards and is run like a professional operation. Someone is not just dressed because they need a warm body on the bench and fit the ratio. Would Cross be dressed in Hamilton or would he be on the practice squad, if even. I don't think so. You know he played at Mac and they didn't draft him, so that might give you an indication. It's nothing personal against him.

Even you said, he's not much of a pass receiver and won't be getting the ball much anyway, as he's primarily there as a blocker...If that's the case, then why pass him the ball in a game. If not much is expected, was there not anyone else available in the draft that would have had a higher learning curve. He's not even blocking and is being used on Special teams, which isn't really saying much on this team. I'm not pinning that on him, but when you're a player who get spot duty on offense, you better make a play when one comes your way.

Do you even know what the word sense means???? You're a master of contradictions. Example..who cares, he hardly gets the ball anyway...

Pretty sure Underwood has been on ticats PR or active list for wks without playing. He got cut because they brought in a receiver they decided was better or at least had better potential. If Streeter wasn't available, Underwood would still be part of the genius Austin's group of players.

Referencing him was not meant to turn this into a thread about Underwood, but I think it's a fair move by Austin. He did drop some very catchable passes and didn't lay out at all, and the Cats are pretty deep at receiver.

I'll take a page out of OV and say that he would not have even been dressed or gotten off the practice roster if he were a national by several other coaches in this league. For an international, he was not consistent at all for the production that you'd want from a starter playing receiver, but he could catch on with another club should injuries unfold and teams get desperate.
