The funniest thing I keep hearing about this trade is how the Argos gave up a good young DB. I don`t know about anyone else, but I really don`t consider a 29 year old to be young in pro football.
As usual, lio and AV bring the most sound takes to a topic.

Was Heath even a starter at the beginning of the year? Some reporters are acting like we just gave up Deion Sanders or Darrell Green.

We will see on Saturday whether Barker may have pulled the trigger too quickly on this trade.
If Dan has another great game and we happen to win.......?

Barker was remarkably defensive about the trade when interviewed lately.
If it doesn't pan out I won't fail to say "I told you so" probably just as B & M leave the scene of the "crime".
If it proves to be a good trade: spicy crow is on the menu.

Then we are in good shape with lots of depth at a critical position. A win would also likely mean that they didn't miss Heath too much.

And sooner or later some team needs a QB, so you can always trade one away. Depth gives you options.

Unless it was one of those last-second shootout wins.

It will take much more time than that. I am not a Drew Willy fan. However, if Milanovich, who says he can coach him into an elite CFL qb is able to do just that, then I will be a fan.

Let's also hope that Sackey and Campbell can step into meaningful roles with the team next year. That will lessen the impact of trading away that 1st round pick.

Here's another aspect to this trade.

Argos now will have Willy as #1. They have Fever as #2 and he'll be content as a #2 since he isn't starting anywhere else. Plus if Willy goes down he gets his play time + any packages Milo makes for him. This now allows Kilgore or whoever to be a proper #3 guy and develop into the stud Milo thinks they'll become.

Yes. Collaros was ready after a bit more than one season, but that's the exception. Harris was in his fourth season before he played regularly. So was Darian Durant. So was Mike Reilly. Bo Levi Mitchell was in his third.

I'd like to keep two of Kilgore, Fajardo and Bolles in the fold next season, but think we would need to put the No. 4 guy on the IR, at full salary, rather than try to hide him on the PR.

I think Danny McManus was a back up for 5 years before he finally got his chance. Problem is now players are FA's after two years in most cases, and jump to greener pastures if they have any talent.

Tell us why - apart from completely inappropriate favouritism and, of course, the sunk cost fallacy - should the Argos "now ... have Willy as #1" ?

Anyway, Willy won't be starting until LeFevour doesn't win [or fails to land a triple salchow, or... something]. Yes, it'll be interesting and revealing to see how Milanovich handles this situation.

The rate at which cfl qbs are getting injured makes this a good deal. I think he will be a backup to Lefevour and wh knows maybe trade bait lwter. They obviously saw somethingnthey liked and it sounds like Ricky Ray maybe through for the year and maybe forever. A broken rib puncturing a lung would be enough to make most players think about retiring.

I think Ray is done. Too many injuries the past 4 years and this latest one probably seals it.

It will be interesting in a few more weeks. If Ray is deemed healthy, does SM start him if we've been winning with Lefevour? We'll see where we are at that point.

As for Ray being done for next year. Is it his call? Or have SM and JB decided it's time to move on?
Anyway, I prefer Lefevour, Willy, then Kilgore, Fajardo and Bolles in some sort of order.

Sure. The player that the HC has been after for a long time (and the team gave up a lot to get) will have to legitimately compete for the #1 job.

Willy is already the #1 guy. He's just not starting yet.

I fear that we are both correct.

B&M could have obtained DW for free: all they had to do is wait until the end of the season.

What if LeFevour plays well enough to start for the rest of this season? Then #1 and #3 and Heath all gone for naught.

What if LeFevour plays well enough to start for the rest of this season, but is kicked to the curb?

Let's just say that both judgment and character are now being tested. Argonauts fans should not pretend otherwise.
