    Movie Thread *MAY BE SPOILERS*

Anyone seen the "Logan" Trailer ?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhFP0V6n7aY

Pretty good IMO, love how they're loosely basing it on the Old Man Logan story, a few changes obviously, but I love the addition of X-23. A great way to end Hugh Jackman's term as Wolverine, and ushering the future Wolverine in.

    Sigh. *Another* Wolverine movie?

I'm really looking forward to Arrival, which opens in three weeks. I have some trepidation concerning his upcoming Blade Runner sequel, but Villeneuve has a great track record.

Last Wolverine/Xmen movie with Jackman actually. The plan was always to do 3 Wolverine movies btw. First two were big disappoints, but I'm hoping they do Old Logan well (changes included).

Agreed, although I could've done without the sappy ending.

Still want to check out Fantastic Beasts, and just waiting for Rogue One and Passengers to be released.

Blade Runner 2049. It's early yet, but I'm starting to think that Villeneuve will deliver the goods.

Haven't seen it, but when I saw the trailer it seemed like it was a more dramatic and darker version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

I wasn't originally excited about Rogue One because I'm a bit queasy about the idea of every franchise adopting the "cinematic universe" model... but *damn*, that was fun!

Sure, it was somewhat constrained by the rules of Star Wars (PG-13, major characters always get a "death scene", and somewhat slavish adherence to continuity), but it pushed those limits and really kicked ass. The logical decision not to try to force room for a sequel allowed the writers to bend the rules a bit while creating some genuinely spectacular stuff.

Rogue One is easily the best Star Wars movie.

Rogue One was a fine movie. The best of the franchise? I probably need more time to consider that.

It was a great movie and a perfect tie in to the universe. It's hard to agree that it is the best, because it uses so many ideas from previous movies (which is fine and why we all love it). First seeing the AT-AT's and Vaders "No, I am your father" are unforgettable memories that make Empire the best for me. Nevertheless, the story was solid, the tragic ending was unexpected, but unique. The characters (x-wing pilots, Tarkin, Lea and Vader) and their actors (many since passed), that were also in A New Hope were awesome highlights for me. Can't wait to see it again!

I think some props need to go to Disney. There is not a better company for this franchise. They are sure putting out greater than expected movies. I'm looking forward to the many Star Wars movies (looks like one every year), if they can keep this quality up.

A "tragic" ending certainly wasn't the safe move, but it makes sense.

I liked the darker tones as it reminded me of Empire, but for me "Empire Strikes Back" and "A New Hope" are still one and two. At the very least Rogue one would be way ahead of Episodes 1-3, but still thinking about if it should be ahead of 7.

I was thinking that Rogue One belonged ahead of 1-3 for sure, and probably ahead of 7 but not ahead of 4-6.

Jedi for me was by far the weak link in the Original Trilogy, so I'd put Rogue One ahead of it. Tricky with Force Awakens for me, because as good as it was, it essentially IMO was just a re-imaging of A New Hope.

I re-watched the original trilogy last week and remain convinced that Rogue One has set a new standard.

It's not an easy comparison, of course. "Star Wars" created a new type of space fantasy that paid attention to the details and showed respect for its audience. "Empire" suffers from being the middle part, but has big moments that advance the story. "ROTJ" helped to create the furry movement.

Part of the reason that Rogue One is so good is the way it uses CGI. In Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, model and graphic effects were emphasized because the cinematographer was (rightly for the time) showing off! Rogue One's effects are often seen as shadows, out of focus, or de-emphasized to allow the human and humanoid characters to *act*.

The acting is pretty good in Rogue One.

Anything is better than Episode 1. What were they thinking?

I actually found Rouge One to be a bit boring. Good but not spectacular.

If anyone on the forum has yet to watch "Titanic", without giving away the ending, it does not end well.

Tell me about it. Rose was a rich, spoiled brat, who remains the same in elder hood, as she selfishly throws billions into the ocean. 😜
