Possible trade to Argos considering the Popp connection to Edem and Argos not having first round draft choice?

Montreal under Popp and now BC have found Edem wanting at the Safety postion. Wally just lets players go that are in decline or not good enough.
Could be a ST guy and back up for Gabriel but I wouldn't want to give up much for him. Also he is probably getting starter money which could be a problem for the Cap.

I agree he would be a backup to Gabriel/ST player but would provide depth.

Matt Black is still around and he can play safety to back-up Gabriel, plus play all over the D-backfield (IMO anyways).

Rather see the Argos draft a young safety prospect (like Hoover) rather than trade away anything for Edem - who was good with Montreal for a bit but not much for BC last year IMO.

Eden is a big hitter. In the 80's when a safety basically just played centre field and went to the ball he would have been a star. Today, they are asked to cover a lot more with expanded blitz packages, and he is totally lost when it comes to coverage. Great special teamer though.

Popp was the one who sent Edem packing from Montreal so I am not sure he would have great interest in bringing him to Toronto.
Cameron Dukes + Dan Adeboboye + Kevin Mital + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force

Argos also have a young safety in Matt Webster out of Queens and three years with Saskatchewan. Stats show he played a total of 36 games with the Riders 25 tackles on defense and 25 tackles on special teams. Some of the experts have the Argos taking a safety like Dondre Wright with their 10th overall pick. I don't know...nothing surprises me with some of the questionable picks over the years. But with Gabriel, Black and Webster they are already 3 deep there with experience. Have to think a Lineman (Off or Def) and/or a Linebacker would make more sense to me. I could also see them taking one of the NFL signees as a future and wait for them to come available in a year or two when they might need them more. Jim Barker used to call such guys as in the pipeline.

Just read this under NFL transactions this morning... Jags released Greg Van Roten yesterday. Of course, this doesn't mean that he's headed back to the Argos... but he's out there again.

Jimmy Ralph is one of the Ralph brothers who previously played in the CFL.

Cassius Vaughn I remember getting torched by the Argos on Labor Day.

Vaughn was not well liked by Hamilton fans to say the least.

Probably because he got beat by everybody he faced. TBH, even Ansah's better than what Vaughan showed last season, and coming from me that says a lot.
I still think Ansah sucks though.

I'm very curious to see what our secondary looks like this year. Most of the 2016 guys are gone (most recently Joe Rankin, released on Friday), and I don't see an obvious frontrunner for the boundary corner position. We could end up with a surprisingly effective group, or... it might go the other way.

Would Patrick Watkins at age 34 help?

I have watched a lot of Jimmy Ralph, and this is a shrewd pick up for the Argos. No risk, all reward. It is like a free fourth round pick in the draft.

Ralph was among the best high school players/athletes in the country at one time, and has CFL blood lines to boot. He was very exciting to watch with the Golden Bears, and their offense took a nose dive without him last year.
Showed well against the best of his draft class (Llevi Noel, Brian Jones, Brett Blasko) in the East West Bowl:

International RB Martese Jackson has signed with the Argos.

Jackson, a 5-6, 192-pound, native of Asherville, North Carolina, played three seasons at Florida Atlantic after transferring from Fort Scott Community College, registering 240 rushing yards and one touchdown while adding 22 kickoff returns for 392 yards with the Owls.
Jackson previously spent time with both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes, signing with the Als during training camp in 2016 after a brief stop with the Bombers. ...

The FAU product returned four punts for 45 yards and two kickoffs for 59 yards in last year’s preseason finale between Montreal and Toronto, also adding a defensive tackle and special teams tackle. Following training camp, Jackson was released and signed with the Alouettes practice roster, where he spent the duration of 2016.
The Argonauts also announced today that the club has released international defensive back Ri’shard Anderson.

Watkins has played poorly the last two seasons, pretty clear he's done. He even admitted that he significantly slower nowadays.

While Watkins was our best DB in 2012, his injuries and age have taken their toll, making a poor bet as a DB.
