Canada Loses Gold Medal in World Junior Hockey Championships

Canada lost a 5-4 shootout heartbreaker to the US in the gold medal game of the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Canada wasted a pair of two-goal leads in regulation time and outshot the Americans 17-7 in a wild 20-minute overtime, only to be thwarted time and again by U.S. goaltender Tyler Parsons.
Then Parsons stoned all five Canadians in the shootout while Terry beat Carter Hart between the pads to give the Americans their fourth world junior title.

There were a lot of "if only" in this tough loss.

My heart goes out to the Canadian juniors. They built a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes and squandered it. They had a 4-2 lead with less than 16 minutes remaining in the third period and allowed the U.S. to score two quick goals to tie the game once again.
It will be difficult to forget the image of Canadian forward Nicolas Roy bawling afterward or backup goalie Connor Ingram jumping on the ice after the shootout to console his friend, goalie Carter Hart. This one hurt.
Canada's Pierre-Luc Dubois had the game on his stick but whiffed in the third period on a pinpoint pass from teammate Mathew Barzal. Julien Gauthier and Mitchell Stephens had missed goals on close calls for Canada in overtime. The power play was abysmal.

Not the most timely post I believe.

Things had to average itself out after Canada won 5 of these in a row. I believe Jr. Canadian Hockey's biggest issue right now is the # of quality goaltenders out there. We keep hearing the last few tournaments as to how Canada's goaltending hasn't been up to par.
