Calgary continues to follow an American National strategy. Last year it drafted Alex Singleton, an American with Canadian parents, who enabled him to gain Canadian citizenship and National ranking quickly. After Singleton had a stand-out rookie season, they repeated this approach this year, drafting Randy Colling, whose Canadian father enabled him to quickly obtain National status. Calling provides the added bonus of having three years of Arena League experience, raising the question whether the draft rules should be changed for players who have played professionally, not be able to be drafted years after what would have been their normal draft year.
