For example, Cameron Wake was shopping himself around to all teams and could barely get a sniff of interest until the BC Lions took a chance on him. The rest is history. I am not positive, but I think several players the Argos eventually signed were discovered at these free-agent tryouts. Cory Boyd comes to mind, but like I said, I am not positive. Not sure if that info is kept anywhere or if anyone else can clarify. But in the end, what does it hurt?
The Argos have definitely signed some guys who made the team out of these FA camps. One I recall who didn't turn out too well was Claude Wroten, a huge defensive tackle who turned heads at the Florida mini-camp in 2011 and looked as if he would make a big impact with the Boatmen. I remember a play where he fought off a double-team block and made a sack or tackle for a loss using just one arm. But he was gone a few months later for reasons we can only speculate about. He's just one -- there have been others who made it. Ravi will probably remember some.

I remember Barker raving about a RB named Decori Birmingham, who attending a couple FA camps, but for different personal reasons JB was never able to get him to come north of the border. I always find these camps intriguing.

A lot of players throughout the league have come from these camps. Pretty sure Emmanuel Arceneaux, Simoni Lawrence, Orrin Thomson (good Esks lineman who got injured), Pacino Horne (?) all attended such camps. From what I've read about these camps is that some players attend it themselves while other players were personally invited by the team to attend the camp. There's definitely a lot more good players who came from these tryout camps. Usually only 1-2 make it far in TC but if they end up being an Arceneaux then it's worth it.

There is a great CityTV series about Edmonton Eskimos tryout camp aired in 2012 called "Hail Mary". This camp featured an animated Simonides Lawrence from Minnesota. It often airs and is well worth the time watching.

A significant number of players seem to be coming from these camps. They are a cost-effective way of finding talent. I recall reading a Toronto Star article from the early 1980s in which the reporter went to one of these camps run by the Ottawa Rough Riders. If even one player from such a camp makes your roster, it is well worth holding the camp. It seems to me that these camps have produced more players in recent years than they used to although I don't have concrete figures to back that up. However, how often when reading about a newer international player in this league does it mention that the player was found at one of these camps? That seems to happen quite a bit today.

Today's scheduled Argonaut tryout camp in Atlanta has been cancelled although the tryout website still shows Friday's and tomorrow's tryout camps in Tallahassee Florida and New Orleans respectively as operating. Whether this is related to the firing of Barker and Milanovich is unclear.
