Exactly. He's had his CFL time and was useless & clueless a lot of the time towards the end.

And are there new CFL Commish rules that prevent the Argos from talking to other CFL teams' coaching staffs - even if is for a promotion (like position coach or co-ordinator up to a HC ) ?

I believe you are correct OV, other teams have finalized their coaching and management personnel so Copeland has limited his options at this time.

I'm not optimistic based on the time it took Copeland to complete this "review."

OK, but the question I had was to do with who can the Argos' contact about coaching jobs? - didn't Orridge implement a new rule after the Noel Thorpe thing with Montreal last year? Is another team forbidden from talking to any & all other CFL coaches currently under contract, even if it is for a promotion to a HC job?

Here's a stretch how 'bout Tom Clements leaving the Packers for "other interests".

Tom Clements. That could be the one we're looking for! CFL football guru? Almost NotreDame head coach at one time.

That would be interesting. Tom has rebuffed any overtures before about coming back to the CFL in some capacity. The head guru of the Argos might just pay enough to tweak his interest. But he's not getting any younger.

After turning down many previous CFL jobs, why would he do it now?

The Argos don't seem to be entertaining a coaching change at this time in spite of whatever the merits of that might be. That's where Clements would fit in versus the present search for a General Manager.

I think a position of football guru and a substantial cheque which would be commensurate for a candidate with his CFL and NFL pedigree might just do it for Tommy! Timing is everything in life and he may not have been happy with his treatment in Green Bay as of late.

But, what experience does he have in player personnel? AFAIK, he's been employed at the coordinator level. If the Argos were looking for a new HC the conversation is different, but right or wrongly they aren't right now.

Could they be planning on promoting milanovich and putting this guy from the packers in the hc slot?

MLSE ignored those questions when they hired the hockey czar Brendan Shanahan. He was an administrator at the NHL before President of Maple Leafs. Looks like what they like to do.

I didn't think that MLSE owned the Argos?

Two thirds of MLSE own the Argos. I'm pretty sure George Cope (Bell) and Larry Tananbaun (Kilmer Sports) aren't going to forget what they are doing at MLSE when it comes to the Argos. It seems bringing in a football guru makes a lot of sense with Michael Copeland's early missteps.

I don't think you will see a football Czar. Copeland has not mentioned this as a possibility, and frankly, I don't see how paying about $1M between a Czar and GM makes any type of financial sense. I think you'll see a GM and president of football operations in one.

Could they be that stupid? Yet another illustration of the "Peter Principle" involving the same fellow would certainly pulverize next season and the foreseeable football future.

Or even 1.5+M between a czar and two GMs, one defunct.

I received an Argos communication today that referred to the new hire as football leader? Doesn't seem to preclude President and doesn't refer to GM only?

"We are currently in the process of finding the Argos' next football leader to help lead us forward. We look forward to sharing news on that front with you as soon as we can."
