Not on the current CFL FA list, but Tristan Okpalugo has re-signed back in the CFL with the Bummers. Guess he liked coach O'Shea from before / no surprise he would stay away from the current Argo gong-show.

I'm sure our lack of coaching staff and GM scared him away. How many more times will this happen to the Argos during free agency this year? They really need to have something announced prior to the 15th.

Of course. If there's a choice, no good Agent is going to guide his client to Toronto right now unless a premium is payed. In a salary cap league, this team is already losing.

Ridiculous things have dragged on this long, I would expect most high end free agents to explore all ther CFL options before even considering Toronto.

That's just it though, it's all about the $. I guess if offers were the same and you prefer to spend most of your summer in say Winnipeg than Toronto, have at it. The Argos have already resigned 5 nationals. You would think if it's good enough for them, surely not many international players would be opposed to playing here. I think fans put too much importance on things that really don't resignate with some players and especially agents.

He may like O'Shea, but it won't be because of a prior association. TO's first year with the Argos (2014) was O'Shea's first year with Winnipeg.

The Argo's were in on Tristan O. Sources say he was offered a very healthy $130,000, but turned to Winnipeg due to instability in Toronto.

Conversely, with Ottawa getting Ellingson back today, they can't afford everyone.

I'd expect Hamilton or Toronto to be the geographical destinations of choice for Action Jackson. And he played with Willy in Buffalo.

It is not like they can't get any FA's, but understandably they may not be on the top of mostly anyone's list.

Money talks, but it may take the Argos more of it.

For what I could find the reasoning isn't confirmed. This is just an assumption. Winnipeg could've offered more money. The source, Dunk, said TO was his second choice at $130k+ but did not provide a reason or info on Winnipeg's offer.

Assuming similar money smart move to sign with the team with a coaching staff and solid management team in place, if nothing changes in the next couple of days expect more of the same news next week.

With no coach or GM, logic tells us we had better get used to getting looked over by many of these FA's. Simply put yourself in the players/agents shoes.

Jackson would be wise to stay in Ottawa - where he is already a fit/knows their passing offence, and where he has a good chance to make play-off money including GC bonus like he just got. Doubt some team (Hamilton or Argos) are going to blow away the offer Ottawa would give.

Be nice to see Ottawa be able to keep all their key free agents - show some loyalty and a chance at going for a GC repeat - be nice if that was a consideration - not like any CFL teams can offer a big multi-million dollar contract = stay where you are and have been successful - to build on that.

It'll be more difficult without a HC and GM but players may go where the money is. Especially, since this year's market won't be out of control. If you're a vet like Ryan Phillips or Chad Owens and the Argos are the only team to offer a decent contract, would they say no?

Jackson is an interesting situation. Would he want to finally be a #1 guy rather than #2, #3 or #4 like he was in BC or Ottawa? Jackson also has a history with Drew Willy from their UB days.

All things being equal don't see Toronto being the destination of choice for many free agents (too much instability) and question marks within the organization.

But how often are all things equal? Monetary offers are seldom identical. There's also quality of life, cost of living, proximity to home, etc. Many factors go into these decisions beyond the team's coaching/mgmt. structure.

Ok, what would be the gap $5-10k on a contract?
CFL cap is pretty limiting and teams know the going rate by position and skill set, cost of living won't favour Toronto or any big city.
Overspending on any given player will result in cutting corners elsewhere which isn't a great scenario either.
No GM, no HC and questions in regards to positional coaches or coordinators will come into play when players are deciding.

Tristan O, a player from California, who also played college ball there, did not take less money to play for Winnipeg.

Chad Owens signed with the only team offering him a contract and I believe he is in the same situation this year. He may take less money to stay closer to family (if that was ever an option), but this is only a likely scenario with Nationals or players living or having ties in the area.

Player agents have one thing on their mind, their cut. The player makes the final decision. Also important to keep in mind is that a lot of these contract are one and done and not guaranteed even if they are longer term. It's about getting paid now because next year your doing it all again.

    .
Owens actually did get more offers but took less money from the Ticats because that is the one that was local. I'd like for the Argos to take him again, if nothing else than for locker room and sideline leadership plus he can still produce!
