Deane played tackle in college but I assume we'll use him at RG. Now we just need a LT (assuming that Van Zeyl can still be our RT...)

An area of need. I like this signing!
Great news, definitely an area of need.
Nice to have a GM in place to make something happen.

Good move by Popp & Co.
Signing an average O-lineman is? - hope they did not pay big bucks. So what with the O-Line: ? - Deane joins Holmes as starters at guard; McEwen a lock at C (one would think); then what of Dyakowski, Van Zeyl (re-signed to supposedly big bucks), Watman, and last year's draft picks like Sackey & Campbell (plus vet Wayne Smith is done i guess) ? Van Zeyl to be pencilled-in as a starting OT, and Dyakowski & Watman as veteran depth guys ??? With one new import starting OT ?
Pretty much. IMO:
INT - Holmes - McEwen - Deane - Van Zeyl
- Watman dresses as inside backup (unless displaced by Sackey), Dyakowski dresses as outside backup (unless displaced by Campbell)
- Smith released
- The inside/outside guys who don't dress go on the PR
We still need a LT, obviously, and we need to find out whether CVZ can still be an above average RT.

I think we need to have both Campbell and Sackey on the 46. Won't be able to PR them without someone grabbing them, so it's either roster or IR. I am really hoping Campbell is ready to start at LT, but that's probably a year too soon. So my starting lineup would be same as Wobbler's (except with McEwen at centre -- Sewell is of course long gone), with Campbell and Dyakowski dressed and Sackey on the 46 but inactive, or on IR. Watman and/or Smith on the PR or IR.
A weakness with this plan is I don't think it gives us a viable backup centre on the active roster. For that reason Watman might have to dress, with Campbell and Sackey both on the 46 but not the 44. Losing VR really cost us: the flexibility of a guy who could play all positions. Maybe we will try to teach Sackey how to play centre.

BTW, good to hear Deane say his own name on the video the team put out. I've heard it said two different ways by announcers -- now we know it is JAY-mike-uhl, not juh-MIKE-uhl.

Good. We definitely need a viable backup at centre.
I'd love if it both Sackey and Campbell were deemed good enough to dress every game this year, and start in 2018. Anything sooner than that is gravy.
I think Campbell really wants to be an impact player for the Argos, having been part of a high school program that the org resurrected or kept alive through its support.

Wobbler did an excellent analysis --expect his line up will very close to the opening day line up for OL. Campbell was activated for 8 games last season and Sackey for 6. I took particular notice of Campbell when he did get in and to an unprofessional eye, he looked pretty good. It would not be a surprise to see both Smith and Dyakowski get released.
Glad Deane was able to bounce back after that horrific broken leg he suffered a few years back at Sky dome while a member of the Calgary Stampeders. Guy has been a solid starter for the majority of his CFL career.
Since the OL definitely needed strengthening, it's good to see Deane signed with the Argos. Being a hometown boy might have helped.
Here's a summary of free agents still available. At this point in the process, the advantage in most situations will be with the buyer.

Not a fan of having to start Van Zeyl at RT at this point.
