Looks like the Argos are going to make a major play for International Derek Dennis (#6 ranked on the top 30 free agent list) to boost their OL. If they can get him without going overboard in salary, it would be a major bonus, especially since he is 28.

Probably want to go younger and cheaper.
I still can't quite wrap my head around this. We don't have a proven alternative to Whitaker on the roster, and there's no guarantee we'll find one in the FA market (Shakir Bell would be fine but who know what will happen?). We're not going to draft a starting RB. I'm sure we'll recruit a few guys, and maybe Coombs will be tried at that position, but I find it odd that we'd roll the dice at such an important position.

I think it's more likely that Lawless is wrong, and that we're still negotiating with Whitaker.

    Argo's could use a big red zone receiver like this one. Hey, didn't we.......... (;

If he's right, part of it may be his age, as he'll be 32 in September. However, I agree that he is highly reliable both in terms of performance and attitude and losing him without a quality replacement would be a major loss.

I'd be very happy if we landed Dennis.

So why aren't the Bombers interested in the guy that has now been on 11 teams in the last 6 years?

Truth is, I can see the Argos bringing him back, because he is talented and will likely be cheap. I don't see a bidding war for his services.

How O'Shea and co. there view Darvin Adams as a better receiver talent than Gurley is wayyyy beyond me; maybe Adams is a good team guy and has a low cost contract, but he is an average receiver talent at best IMO ? They brought back Clarence Denmark last year, and he's a decent vet (a sort of poor man's Marquay McDaniel), but they need better receiver talent aside from Dressler. They might be wise to use one of their top draft picks on one of the pretty good receiver prospects coming up (Vandervoort, Behar, Picton or maybe Simonise (if he does not look like he will stick with the Bengals?) and give that kid a real shot to play = they might find another Joe Poplawski.

I don't disagree with you OV. Adams has shown some signs though and is 2 years younger than Gurley. I think he's faster too. They only thing that makes any sense is that Gurley may be quick to wear out his welcome wherever he goes.

Bombers also do need to improve their Canadian receiver talent., so I can see them taking a couple of receivers. Maybe even trading down the 1st pick so they can get 2 in the first round.

With this faceless operation so far and even though he is 35 years old, I would in a minor FA go after and bring back Chad Owens.
He had a decent year with the Cats and we need a face desperately in this city.

For me, Adams is #3-#4 receiver who has had his moments in the sun. I would rank Denmark and Gurley as significantly superior. However, having paid big bucks to keep Nichols and sign Okpalaugo and with GM Walters indicating they don't have the money to go after more top free agents, they wanted to lock in Adams early so they didn't have to go looking for a replacement if he signed elsewhere.

I agree. He can still play, and he's a strong personality who can lead as well as promote the team in the community.

Leadership and competitiveness are the most important qualities he would bring to a team that largely lacked them last year and currently. His receiver capability would be a bonus.

Could the Argos be pursuing DB Ryan Phillips, as Argo coach Stubler is mentioned as one of his former coaches in the tweet below? He could be a good mentor to a younger set of DBs likely to be part of the defensive backfield.

Losing KR/WR Diontae Spencer would be a big loss for the Argos.

Looks like the Argos could also be losing Kenny Shaw.

Deep list of receivers means Shaw and Spencer may not find a huge market for their services, and are replaceable. I'd like to keep both but if not, there are some other receivers who would look very good in DBlue.

TSN panel discusses which receivers are going to attract the most attention, including Ernest Jackson, Chris Williams and Andy Fantuz, as well as DL Cleyon Liang and Drake Nevis.

Hopefully the Argos can get their best DB back.
