Copeland's introduction like his "search" is taking too long. We need to hear from Popp and Trestman the real questions and answers.
Marc Trestman says all the right things.
Jim Popp coming up on FAN 590.
I didn't find that to be the case at all. What was especially interesting coming out of this press conference is that Copeland and Sara Moore both played key roles in luring Popp and Trestman to Toronto - Trestman even acknowledged this - and I am very thankful for that.
For all of the blame that Copeland has received on here, I got the feeling from this press conference that it was ownership that was pushing for an NFL person to come in as GM and Copeland was the one who convinced them that Popp was the best person available. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your point of view), this does not fit the narrative that has developed on here regarding Michael Copeland.
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force
Popp certainly was warm towards Copeland at the presser which fits the view of things you put forth and the only way for Copeland to defend himself would be to throw the owners under the bus which would make things worse. We know the Rash gets his info from Tillman so its not like they have the best interests of the Argos at heart...
I don't who you saw today, but the Copeland I witnessed today looked shell shocked. He looked terrible. He spent way too much time defending the indefensible. Until finally we got a chance to hear from Popp and Trestman. Hopefully going forward that will be the case. Popp and Trestman and the world will be right again.

For the first time I can remember, we have a top notch GM and HC who have a plan. They're dedicated to success and inspire confidence. Overnight, we've gone from the recent laughingstock of the CFL to a destination that top players will find attractive for more than the pay. I believe there is a nucleus here of a team that Trestman can mold. Popp will be able to find more pieces as time goes by.
I am particularly excited about a return to an aggressive, quick defence as the Argos defences of times past.

I don't think the sarcasm is helpful, guys, but yeah...
I'm glad you're excited, 1971GC, but things haven't really changed that much. Barker was a very good GM, and I don't think he lost a trade other than the Willy deal. Popp isn't better. Trestman should be a very good HC, but we're expecting him to run an offense similar to Milanovich's, aren't we? Hopefully he'll make some important changes and/or do a better job, but that remains to be seen.
At least Trestman is known for running very good passing offences - both in the CFL & NFL; a healthy Ricky Ray could be key, but O-line and receiver position groups are fairly big question marks that need to be solved to help with a good passing O. Running game will be just a little used part, so not a big deal as to who is the starting RB, IMO.
Jimmy P is a (now anyways) confirmed CFL GOB in terms of 7 only NIs need apply for playing time; he got to load-up with 5 NIs on his O-line with the Als as an m.o. there, but I bet we will see at least one starting import OT now? (unless Bourke & or Perrett get a green light from Trestman?); 4 NI O-linemen plus one NI receiver (Jones i guess?) = 5 NIs on offence; and then on D (depending on the DC - Chamblin does not like Canadians playing on his D) ? - a DT Waud ( backed by hopefully a good pick from a deep crop this draft), and then either a linebacker (Greenwood? - what's the deal there on him not being re-signed by now?) or else Gabriel at safety ?
It will be exactly the same as the Milanovich's offense ... but i expect the game planning and in game adjustments will be way better .. after the first 6 games or so. First season might be a bit rough as Popp finds the right guys that Trestman wants.
Really worried about the defense in first year, especially with a new DC/system and lots and lots of new faces/rookies
