Former McGill University RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif signs a five year extension for $42 million with the Kansas City Chiefs.

For a former sixth round pick out of McGill University, the amount is certainly significant, but these totals put the contract in perspective with the rest of the team and league. Per Spotrac’s rankings, the immediate $14 million guarantee would be the ninth highest in the NFL, certainly a ranking that will go lower in a matter of the next week when Kevin Zeitler and T.J. Lang, among others, sign on the open market.
While his average of $8.4 million remains a top five amount in the NFL, the official breakdown of the detail will be interesting when it’s released, especially to see how the first three years stack up.
