Only 3 of 14 CFLers signing with NFL Got Guaranteed Money

Of the fourteen CFL players who signed with the NFL this year only three got guaranteed money: Eskimo LB Deon Lacey - $200,000; Eskimo WR Derel Walker - $100,000; and Redblacks DB Mitchell White $17,500. Although former Argo OL Greg Van Roten did not get any guaranteed money, he did receive the highest average salary ($660,000) on a two year contract. The lowest average salary was $465,000 for Rider DB Otha Foster on a one year contract.

The bonuses usually indicate how serious a team is about a player as opposed to the player likely being training camp fodder. Of course, that doesn't prevent a player without a bonus from making the team but they would have to be considered a long-shot.

Good point, Jerry. When I read that article my immediate take was that GvR had gotten the highest annual contract, but the signing bonus (or lack thereof) does send a message.
