He certainly did that in Vancouver and Toronto where he threatened Kevin Lowe to a fistfight in a barn. Just what the CFL needs - fans going to games where hockey fights break out started by the commissioner.

The Score’s Sophia Jurksztowicz talked to Leafs hockey boss Brian Burke about the feud that erupted between him and Oilers hockey boss Kevin Lowe, after Lowe signed Burke’s free agent, Dustin Penner, to an offer sheet.
In the interview, Burke describes how the death of his 21-year-old son Brendan in a car crash in February, 2010 helped convince him that he was going too far in the feud, though NHL commissioner Gary Bettman also helped calm things down at one key point.
At one point, Burke’s wife also overheard Burke on the phone, this time talking to Glen Sather of the Rangers, where Burke asked Sather to act as an intermediary to set up a fist fight between him and Lowe.

Burke proved to be abrasive and "thin skinned" during his tenure with the Leafs and would probably open up a can of whoopass on any smarmy reporter who criticized the league.
    Hire him immediately😛

This league needs all the smarmy reporters criticizing it that it can get. Coverage of any sort is better than no coverage at all.

What the league needs is fair and balanced reporting, already enough media types who love bashing the league.

We wouldn't have a league!! the Esks, Riders, Bombers are making a small profit and the others losing money or breaking even.
If teams had to double the salary cap to $8 million none would survive.
Maybe hire Gary Bettmen as the par time Commish and get him to re-negotiate the CFL TV contract or see if he can get $80 million out of Rogers.

I agree with you on this. I don't think Burke would be a bad choice, but in reality is he going to leave a job that pays millions for a job that pays a few hundred grand? I highly doubt it.

When Cohon left and they were doing interviews, I thought I read that the salary was around $1M.

OK, I thought it was in the 500k range. Even at 1M, it would still be a large pay cut for Burke. I just don't see it. If he was out of work, then maybe. The bigger risk to me would be hiring a guy that might leave if another hockey opportunity would come up.

The media would immediately smell blood with a personality like Burke in charge of the CFL and it would quickly turn into a fiasco.
How about we apply for the job and split the salary😛

Good God, some of these suggestions are hilariously stupid, Brian Burke,...a guy who has no connection to Canadian Football and is an American to boot. This guy probably doesn't know there are 3 downs in the league.

I knew Orridge was a garbage choice who had no knowledge of the game when he only mentioned one player (Warren Moon) in all the so called years his father and him gathered around the TV in Queens, New York to watch the CFL. That response sounded so fabricated that it could have been written for him by a junior high student, that's how predictable it was. He never mentioned any other CFL player from that same era, none, no other player that may have even fit the cultural or social background that was similar to Moon's...God knows there were plenty of them in that era. If that didn't tell you this guy was a phony, nothing would've convinced you.

I'll add another suggestion that can't be any worse than the ones already mentioned, Rod Black. Some of you may like it because it would remove him from the broadcast booth...that may be an automatic ratings booster in itself.

The league needs someone young to attract new fans, not some old fogey who wants to bring the league back to its 'golden days'
Haven't heard anybody of this type suggested at all yet.

Bourke is as big an @$$-hat, clown, moron as it gets in pro sports = total joke to have this guy anywhere near the CFL; let him stick to hockey and maybe he can screw-up another franchise in the idiot Bettman led NHL - maybe he could even replace Bettman.

Someone who really understands the Toronto market would be helpful for the league. Cracking that nut seems to be the biggest challenge.

Although... longer term, brain injury lawsuits might be bigger. Maybe we should also prioritize someone who knows a lot about robots, for when human players are phased out.

Someone who really understands the Toronto market would know that the Argos are destined to be a niche product: one that can make a profit and keep a fanbase engaged, but not one that will compete (revenue-wise) against the big teams in town. Any expectation beyond that makes no sense IMO.
