If he isn't drafted there's a good chance he will be signed as a NFL free agent, which is the league he is focusing on first and is probably why he left registering for the CFL draft so late. However, even if either of these happens, he could well be worth a later draft pick for the Argos because of his testing numbers and his playing Division I. On the other hand if the NFL skips over him totally, he adds to the number of early quality LB choices, increasing the chances of the Argos be able to pick one of them up.

Almost guaranteed, IMO, that one of Mulumba, Herdman or this Judge guy will still be available when the Argos 1st pick; very doubtful they go there IMO.

Since the Lions seem to be dangling one of their two first round draft choices as trade bait, might the Argos be willing to trade up?
There are also rumours that BC Lion National safety Mike Edem is on the trading block. Considering that Popp originally drafted him for Montreal, where he became a East All-Star, could Popp be trying to obtain him again?

After only one season in BC, safety Mike Edem could be on the trading block, this according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji.
Edem joined the Lions last season after starting his career in Montreal and taking on a brief stint in Hamilton. He had 37 defensive tackles and two interceptions in 2016.
Lalji is also reporting that the club could field offers for one of its first round draft picks next week. The Leos hold the 3rd and the 7th overall selections in the Draft which takes place on Sunday at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
Edem was originally selected by the Montreal Alouettes with the third overall pick in the 2013 CFL Draft. He appeared in 35 games during his first two seasons with the Als notching 54 tackles, five sacks and four interceptions. The lofty numbers earned him an East Division All-Star nod in 2013 as well as Montreal’s nominee as Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding Rookie. He began the 2015 season with the Alouettes and appeared in four games before being traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in October where he played in an additional four games and two playoff tilts.

Why not? Depth is most necessary for National Linebacking. I say they do.

And if they are, will you call the league's GM's all clueless for not consulting with you first? I agree at least 1 will be available. I don't see a LB that runs a 5.1!in a he 40 (Herdman) going early in the draft. For the record Argos OT Jamal Campbell has been clocked faster.

Did you consult with your GOB scoutin' buddies and advise to them to write-off Andy Fantuz as a CFL receiver back when he ran one of the slowest receiver times for a CFL Combine ?

No, because I understand that the waggle helps that type of receiver immensely. But hey, Herdman tore up the stats on his team that lost by an average of 45 points a game, so who am I to judge? Of course, I can always blame that on a mostly Canadian roster playing week in and week out against an all American roster, but who really wants to open up that can of worms.

You don't need to judge when you have Argo brass or thinkers to tell you everything you need to know. Again - just admit you don't know or care much about CFL draft prospects; other than what experts tell you or else the Argos drafting them confirms they are good players (freakin' hilarious that you want to bad-mouth a Conference D player of the year and record setting tackler like Herdman cause he played for a losing team but you will shout till blue in the face to defend the Argos for drafting average O-linemen out of York or U of T - priceless). Fantuz is not a very good receiver anyhow - way too slow and plays for the Ticats, not the Argos.

OK OV. I bow to you. The central scouting bureau of all Canadian born players...even though you have never seen 90% of them ever play.

Looks like Justin Senior was the only Canadian taken in the NFL draft (210th in the sixth round by the Seattle Seahawks).

    210 C-
Seahawks select: Justin Senior, OT, Mississippi State
A three-year starter at Mississippi State with above-average size and below-average athleticism. Senior projects as a depth OT prospect.

Houston Texans have signed UCLA DL Eli Ankou as a free agent.

Ankou was the second-ranked prospect in the final version of the CFL’s scouting bureau,
The Ottawa native played a total of 38 games during his collegiate career and Ankou started 19 games during his final two seasons. He recorded 91 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, three knockdowns, 1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick while with the Bruins.

University of Manitoba OL Geoff Gray has signed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent.

The six-foot-six, 330-pound Winnipeg native was the Canada West Outstanding Down Lineman of the Year, making him a finalist for the J.P. Metras trophy for the 2016 USports football season. Gray’s strong play and impressive physique – weightlifting background – helped get him an invite to the East-West Shrine Game. He showed he could hang with top NCAA talent and that caused scouts from eight NFL teams to go north to the Manitoba capital to see Gray’s pro day.

TE Anthony Auclair of Laval University has signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent.

The six-foot-five, 254-pounder had 17 catches for 229 yards and two touchdowns in eight regular season games for the Rouge et Or. He recorded a team-high 70 receiving yards and one touchdown in Laval’s 2016 Vanier Cup championship victory.
Then he garnered an invite to the East-West Shrine Game. After showing well in Florida, 17 NFL teams traveled to Quebec City to see Auclair perform at his pro day. That made 10 NFL teams bring him in for a visit.

Jordan Herdman has apparently accepted a mini-camp invite from the Chiefs; not that this means much - a bunch of CIS / CFL draft prospects have gone to these camps in the past couple of years ( with the Giants in particular for some reason?) and not moved on to main TC. Herdman bound to get cut anyways due to his slow 40 time as the Chiefs did not seek out advice from scouting experts here. ;o)

Of the current CFL Scouting Bureau's list of top 20 prospects for this draft - I've seen 10 of them actually play football - you know, in football games. I've also watched some hi-lite package film of some of the other guys on that list.

    Now my math ain't that great - is that 10 % ?

The Giants are once again pursuing Canadian talent.

Montreal Carabins kicker and punter Felix Menard-Briere has accepted an invitation to attend rookie mini-camp with the New York Giants, per sources.
Menard-Briere was named to the 2016 All-Canadian first-team as a punter after leading USports with a 42.4-yard average with 21 going out inside the 20-yard line and a long of 93 yards. He added 17 field goals on 25 attempts last year.

John Hodge discusses how the NFL draft and free agent signings will affect the CFL draft below based on the history of previous signings. Historically, those drafted or signed as priority free agents typically stick in the NFL for some time while non-priority signings are often fodder for the NFL machine.

Four of the CFL’s highest-ranked prospects were hoping to hear their names called among the 253 draftees, including Mississippi State offensive tackle Justin Senior (1), UCLA defensive tackle Eli Ankou (2), Manitoba guard Geoff Gray (3), and Laval tight end Antony Auclair (7). UCLA linebacker Cameron Judge, a late addition to the 2017 draft class, was also a potential candidate for selection.
Senior turned out to be the lone draftee on Saturday, going in the mid-sixth round to the Seattle Seahawks. Senior will earn a signing bonus of approximately $50,000 as per his draft position, a sizeable bonus for a project player who underwhelmed at the Senior Bowl.
But how does his selection in the NFL draft affect Senior’s CFL draft stock? Teams will want to know the odds of Senior signing a CFL contract are decent if they are to invest anything higher than a mid-round selection to draft him.
Unfortunately for CFL teams, the recent history of Canadian sixth round NFL draft picks making their way north is bleak.
McGill tackle Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft and has since established himself as one of the league’s best young guards. Inking a five-year, $41.25 million dollar contract extension in February, it is safe to say the man known to many NFL fans as “Larry the Canadian” will never play a down in the CFL.
Rice defensive tackle Christian Covington went in the sixth round one year later to the Houston Texans where he has quickly developed into an impact player, starting five games in 2016. Covington’s role should increase in 2017 following the departure of future hall of fame nose tackle Vince Wilfork.
While there’s no guarantee that Senior will enjoy the same NFL success as Duvernay-Tardif or Covington, CFL teams should be hesitant to invest a high pick in the Mississippi State product. Historically, approximately 70 percent of sixth round picks remain with their original NFL team for at least one season; that number falls to 35 percent by year three.
Covington was a fifth-round pick of the B.C. Lions in 2015, while Duvernay-Tardif was a third-round pick of the Stampeders in 2014, albeit it in a weak draft class. Look for Senior to go no earlier than the third round in next Sunday’s CFL draft. I wouldn’t consider Senior a bargain until somewhere in the fifth.
Three of the players listed above signed with NFL teams just moments after the draft as priority free agents. UCLA’s Ankou joined Covington in Houston, Manitoba’s Gray signed with Green Bay, and Laval’s Auclair inked a deal with Tampa Bay.
Unless the trend changes, this trio won’t be CFL-bound anytime soon.
Over the past ten years, every CFL draft prospect to sign with an NFL club as a priority undrafted free agent has stuck down south. Austin Pasztor (2012), Moe Petrus (2012), Brett Boyko (2015), Mehdi Abdesmad (2016), and Arjen Colquhoun (2016) all signed NFL deals immediately following their respective drafts and are either still under contract (Boyko, Abdesmad), retired (Petrus) or free agents (Pasztor, Colquhoun).
The track record for non-priority undrafted free agents is more CFL-friendly. Stefan Charles (2012), Andy Mulumba (2013), Elie Bouka (2016), and Tevaun Smith (2016) all remain in the NFL, but Sam Giguere (2008), Tyler Holmes (2012), Linden Gaydosh (2013), and David Foucault (2014) all eventually signed CFL deals after stints down south. Giguere took four seasons to come north, Foucault needed three, while Holmes and Gaydosh both needed just one.
This means that while Ankou, Gray, and Auclair may be unlikely to sign CFL deals anytime soon (if ever), any of the remaining unsigned CFL draft prospects — UCLA’s Judge, Iowa defensive tackle Faith Ekakitie, Maine linebacker Christophe Mulumba, etc. — may still be worth high picks, even if they sign NFL deals before the CFL draft on May 7.
