We can't "force" any type of coverage. But the Argos can work their way back into the media's consciousness (Rogers excepted) by filling BMO most of the time and putting an entertaining, competitive product on the field. It's all doable but some of it (the filling-BMO part) will take time.

BTW the HNIC introduction couldn't have been an "ode to Toronto championships" since they included Raptor, and TFC players. None of which have ever won a championship. To justify them, it might have been about Toronto teams that made the playoffs in the last year. Neither the Rock nor the Argos made the playoffs their last season.

Or it was "Come see the other Rogers sports teams in Toronto."

This is something that Copeland brought up at the open mic, that while he can't lose sleep over what Rogers says or does not say. But, if the Argos do work themselves back into the public's consciousness somehow won't the media coverage have to change by default.

    .

It is this willful ignoring of the Argos as if they are not or ever have been part of this city' sports landscape is the reason why I struggle to support the other teams.

Agreed. Of course the Leafs to me are an exception, because the Argos thrived for many years when it was just them and the Leafs. By default, I hold the previously all American leagues coming to Toronto responsible....especially the baseball team.

Childish? Perhaps, but I don't care.

I would think that the Blue Jays would deserve more hostility on this criteria vs the Raptors.

Being a Jays fan is difficult for me because I acknowledge the hostility of their owner to the CFL and the Argos. So I admittedly have a small corner inside that is happy when they have a bad season because I see it as bad karma for Rogers, but am still happy when they win. Sounds bandwagon I know, but can't make one decision or the other.

I get it. It's probably different for me and some others on here, because we remember when the Leafs were kings of the winter and spring, while the Argos owned the summer and fall.

I see no reason for this ignorance of the Argos and the CFL other than a concerted attempt to kill the league in favor of the NFL to come here.

Our Mayor is a former CFL commissioner - which is a good starting point.
I think with just a little more promotional effort - the average citizen's awareness of the Argos can happen.

Come on Scooter... I mean nice thought but let's be realistic.
You will never see someone step up with the kind of money it takes to buy an NFL team - & base it in a city that has shown a lack of suppport for the game.
Rogers tried with the Bills - & our chance to share an NFL team died with their failure.

I don't know how much more promotion they can do compared to what they did last year. Maybe changing their focus from mass media to a more grass roots approach will help.

Yes - they did a lot of promotion & I commend their effort last year.
And they need to continue this effort in 2017 - to build on this new foundation of increased awareness.
And I agree with a grass roots approach.
Football has fallen far from where it once was - & many other sports are played by kids these days.
We may never (again) be #1 in this town - but this is a HUGE market.
So we only need to carve out a small segment of sports supporters - & we'll be just fine.

streamers are caught in the TV ratings ... if they are watching the TSN/SN signal with the sound on. Same goes for bars, gym, even walking in bestbuy.

but your right cord cutting generation isn't even watching the games ... just catching the nightly highlights (attention span is tooo short) and chatter on social media.

The Argos are a junior partner in the current Toronto sports scene, but we can still benefit from the partnership. Having uniformed players support the Leafs (on camera) seems like an easy/cheap way to demonstrate home town loyalty and representation. Isn't that our strength? I'd be surprised if another "Toronto team" has a higher frequency of Ontario players.

It's still not stopping them from trying. They have more money than brains. Why else are they ignored to such an extent? I can't think of another explanation.

How does that work? Are you saying that the ratings measurement system can pick up any device anywhere that receives the stream, and can know how many people are in the vicinity, provided the sound is on? That seems a bit far-fetched to me.

Best the Argos can do is to somehow get Rogers on board and get some positive commentary from them for a change. Difficult to do though, as I don't see Rogers willing to do it unless they somehow get a piece of the TV deal.
