Nothing to complain about here. If he is healthy and can still contribute, great. If not, we cut him and all we lost was a pick that likely would not have produced a roster player.

I was just thinking after the meeting with Popp, that somehow SJ Green would be an Argo one day. If only I had posted my thoughts, I would've looked like a psychic. I also previously thought that maybe if Chad Owens doesn't work for Jones, he'd somehow end up back in Toronto. But maybe not.

A nice upgrade if he stays healthy. Someone for Ray to thorw to at least....if healthy as well.

How long is Green under contract for anyways?

Hard to believe Seth Green has been in the league for 10 years now. Great acquisition by Popp. Still only 31 years of age.

for what we are paying, little worried his knee is still bad. But again we are paying nothing other than asborbing his salary.
    Its all upside.

Had to be a salary dump for the Als. Hopefully he still has something left and if he has it's a good deal for the Argos. SJ Green and Richardson were a dynamic pair in their prime for Montreal. Richardson was never the same after his knee injury but we have to hope Green can come back and be a force this year with Ricky Ray throwing to him.

Even though he is on the down side of this career, this is a very good pick up and for really nothing in return.

Good trade, low risk with the potential for high reward.

IF he's close to 100% or near his old CFL form (superb hands / big play ability) = great pick-up; if he is not near what he once was after a devastating knee injury, and they have his (supposed) huge salary applied to the $m$ and average receiver production = very iffy to have on the roster, IMO.

A great piece if he remains healthy.

SJ's knee only needs to be well enough for him to run out 10 yards - then it's all on Ray to get it to him.
And from what I've seen - Ray's passes can be off by 2'-3' - & SJ will still snatch it in!
One more puzzle piece in place - love it!

A low risk acquisition at a position where the Argos badly need upgrading.

Here's Kavis Reed's perspective on the SJ Green trade to the Argos. The signing of Devon Bailey probably also played into the trade in that it upgraded their National talent at receiver.

“The question I wrestled with, at what point do you make a switch of this magnitude? When does it become easy?” Reed said Thursday afternoon, after the Als announced Green had been traded to the Toronto Argonauts for a sixth-round pick in next month’s Canadian college draft, along with a conditional 2018 pick.
“I’m not being paid to make easy decisions,” Reed continued. “It’s never going to be easy to transition from an S.J. Green-calibre player, but it happens in every league. It’s never an easy time … because of what he’s done and what he means to the franchise.
“But you can’t be afraid to make decisions.” ...
“I’ll be honest, I’m excited. I feel rejuvenated already and I wasn’t caught off-guard,” Green told the Montreal Gazette from his winter home in Tampa. “Kavis and I sat down last week. He gave me the lay of the land. He was courteous enough to allow me to have some input on my decision. We came to the conclusion the best decision was for me to be traded. He was kind enough to trade me … to a place I know I’ll feel comfortable.”
Green wouldn’t comment on whether the Argos will now or eventually restructure his contract, other than to admit he and Popp have spoken and he feels comfortable moving forward.
“It’s the business. Kavis has to run his business how he sees fit,” Green said. “Ultimately, I have to run the S.J. Green enterprise.”
Green arguably become redundant when the Als signed free-agent receiver Ernest Jackson from Ottawa in February. Nik Lewis, B.J. Cunningham, Tiquan Underwood and Samuel Giguère are among the returning receivers. ...
“When you look at all the matrix of our football team and the receiving corps we have, we’re very confident we have a very strong core group,” Reed said. “We feel, moving forward, we have to be able to turn the page.” On Thursday, the Als also signed Canadian receiver Devon Bailey, who spent three seasons with Edmonton and is a former first-round draft choice.
