Good to hear that the team i clearly looking for a location to build a better facility. Ryerson has also been rumoured for a couple of years now.

I think Downsview is very, very basic. I don't think the team even has proper workout facilities there. I think TFC has all the bells and whistles.

Yeah, I've seen some players joke about it on twitter. I don't know if it was ever intended as a permanent solution.

I don't like the fact that the field isn't suitable for practice and the Argos will be bussing to different fields in order to practice. Reminds me of the last year at UofT Mississauga.

There’s a grass football field currently at Don Bosco but it’s not suitable to practise on, meaning the Argos will bus to different fields for their workouts for the remainder of this season.

Does anyone have today's schedule. I've seen the formal Argos announcement, it now I can't seem to find any training camp info on Argonauts.ca? Marc Trestman mentioned they'd have a walk through today.

I think they should've stayed at Downsview until a permanent solution was ready.
Before Erindale, the Argos practiced at burnhamthorpe collegiate, I think Don Bosco can be a solution. But why make the move mid season, with no facilities or even a use able practice field in place?

I'm a little confused, was there something wrong with Downsview ? It seems to me that Don Bosco is nowhere near ready to permanently house the team. Maybe a large scale renovation is in the works ? Or maybe Popp and Trestman like how Montreal use to do things ? Montreal has since reached an agreement to have their permanent facilities at the Big Owe and will occasionally use one of the grass fields near Saputo.

I know that the facilities at downsview weren't perfect but they should have have stayed there until don bosco could be made ready for the Argos... The team should buy the property outright.

they only signed a short-term lease for remaining part of the season. I think they are using this a a test-run to see if it works as a facility. Its basically 5-10minutes from the york practice field which they will likely use until weather changes.

Then they look at long-term lease and will invest $$$ if it works, obviously its has space for meetings and staff, gym can be converted to massive workout facility. Has tons of plumbing for cold tubs and hot tubs etc.

They could easily put fieldturf on the field, or bring grass up to pro standards.

There are two parties in this potential negotiation. The site may or may not prove to be ideal as a practice/training facility, but even if it does, there is no guarantee we'll end up there permanently. The school board (or whichever public body owns the site) may want more than it's worth to the Argos. The land could be developed for other purposes. This is far from being settled.

The school board will not usually sell a property, as they then have to return a large amount of the sale price back to the province. This why public school boards will lease to another boards or private schools. When they lease, they get to keep the monies from the lease arrangement, since they still own the property. Normally, a school closes because of low enrolment as a result of the community maturing and sometimes the board planners predict, the school site might be required, some 10 to 20 years in the future, as a result of future developments in the area. There have even been cases, where a public school board will sell the air rights above the school but still retain ownership of the school facilities and since they retain ownership of the school they get to keep the money for renovations to other properties.

Shipyard, is correct, that by signing a one year short term lease, the Argos can test-run the feasibility of the site. Additionally they may have earned first right of refusal by signing this one year contract but only the parties negotiating the agreement would be able tell us that.

The school could potentially, be a very good site for the Argos as it would provide open spaces in the gym and other such areas, the office area is already setup and the classrooms could easily be converted to extra office space, change rooms, meeting rooms etc. It could be an exciting prospect.

Don Bosco is a great idea for a training facility... I imagine that the Argos would coordinate with the city/school board and potentially use it as a community hub for minor football and other activities. The Argos wouldn't need the entire building but some office space and classrooms for meeting rooms. I read that they needed to get out of York as the York lions are starting up and needed the facilities hence the short term lease while they negotiate a long term one.

Definitely the argos could put field turf and a bubble over the field October thru March, and have community use December thru May when they are off to offset costs and support community associations.

Was talk that the leafs were looking at putting a rink where the tennis courts are and use some the the excess administrative space. Highly doubt that given how things have gone with the Mastercard centre (went bankrupt and i believe the city took it over). As well it's in a very residential area.
