Why else would a media company buy a sports team unless there were synergies which increased the value of each entity together more than the sum of the parts. Rogers doesn't cross promote? We're not suggesting that the Argos become a news story, but a sports storey is quite reasonable, particularly when other media outlets that don't have ownership positions appear ignore them.

And as I answered before--"I have no idea what he has or has not done but judging solely by results, he has been spectacularly unsuccessful at getting the team broad and acceptable media coverage. As the CEO, he has to recognize that this is a priority and must accept the success or lack of success at achieving this goal."

Perhaps, as you seem to imply, he might be attempting, to get better media coverage for the team. If he has been and he is successful, I will be the first to acknowledge and compliment him on the accomplishment. However, we see little evidence of this, at this time but I am willing to withhold judgement until more time has expired.

However, should we be satisfied with the present media coverage for the team? If one's answer is yes, then fine , end of discussion. If the answer is no, then where does one place the responsibility for that. It has always been my philosophy that the buck stops at the top.

It is about striking a balance I think.

Nobody wants the 'over-the-top' coverage the Jays receive from Rogers or at least I hope not.

Back to apologize to Shatto about the discussion above regarding using a news agency (CFTO in this case) to promote a sports team.

I believed that even Rogers wasn't low enough to promote the Blue Jays on an unrelated platform such as a news agency. Baseballnet TV and Baseballnet The Fan 590 (hey, they over-saturate with baseball programming - I can't call them a sports network), yes, but not any of their news properties.

Well, I was wrong. I was just listening to 680 News in the car. The sports report came on, as it does twice an hour. First report is about the Blue Jays game tonight. No surprise. No issues for me so far. HOWEVER, they go on to advise that the game can be seen on ..., heard on..., or followed online at ....com.
THAT is beyond reporting. THAT is promotion.

Soooo, since the Argos have to compete in this environment, fight fire with fire then!
    No principles in this marketplace.

At this stage I'm sure Copeland will take any compliment he can get---serious or otherwise.

Improved coverage of the Argos on a Bell platform raises awareness of the team and could possible help attendance.
One would expect that improving attendance would be a very high priority of an Argo CEO. If Copeland is unable or unwilling to attempt to persuade Bell of the benefits of better coverage of the Argos on their local channel, then I respectfully suggest he is missing out on a potentially valuable strategy.
If I am the CEO or Chairman of Bell and I hear that CTV ignores family - well, I want to know why? Doesn't happen - I want to talk with the assholes that work for us and get their explanation of why they don't support their own. When they leave my office they will have a clearer picture of their corporate duty. Second thought, I don't even give a shit what their reasons are unless they show me they have a plan to replace the CFL on TSN. Can't do it - then get the F out!!!!!!!

Breaking down the Argonauts brand with the help of a Canadian marketing guru:

Maybe this is the Athletic’s intent or Fitz-Gerald’s and fair enough if so, but I’m craving some analysis – pre-game and post-game – especially during the season.

Who’s in, who’s out, how practice is looking, etc. I’ve gotta assume a guy like Sean Fitz-Gerald is more than capable of providing this information.

But I will admit as interesting as some articles are like this or his one on the annual corn roast, these could easily be done in the off-season. I mean we have a game tomorrow and the discussion in on marketing?

I dunno maybe I’m the only one here but that’s my take. Somewhat disappointed as I was hoping the Athletic would fill the void of Argos analysis.

Yah, I didn't find the article particularly enlightening or helpful in terms of Argonauts marketing.
However, as a topic, I found it worth exploring.

I don't believe The Athletic is (currently) set up to do game analysis and strategy for the Argonauts either.
Leafs are where the money is and that is where the bulk of the resources go, therefore, more team/game analysis on the Leafs.
As we all know, the Argonauts following doesn't warrant greater resources currently.

The Athletic could still have covered other topics this week rather than marketing ..... CFL practice changes ... an extra bye week next year ... new offensive line coach ... defensive players back ....
These aren't even needing major analysis. But it would've been nice to read it together in the Athletic rather than in bits and pieces elsewhere. Just saying.

The Argos need a beat writer who uses Twitter who can report on the goings-ons at practice. Frank Ziccarelli does not use Twitter and Mike Hogan sometimes has duties at TSN 1050 that prevents him from attending practice every day.

That's a good point. Frank needs to learn how to tweet.

Getting hyped for a big Argo win tomorrow night. In that mindset I went to TSN 1050 audio clips for the Argos. Guess what there is a 3 minute 53 second clip with Marcus Ball from 2 days ago. That's it. WOW. The clip was from the Scott MacArthur show. He asked him insightful questions in those 3 minutes like what do you think about Johnny Manziel?

Thanks for the support big owner. Any momentum this team can build within our market needs to start with coverage. Out of sight out of mind.

I gave up on 1050 (it seems most of Toronto has too) 1150 has more Argonauts and CFL coverage than 1050.
