Exclamation Ricky Ray Throwing The Most Deep Balls in the League

During the yesterday's Pre Game Show they said that so far this season Ray has thrown the most deep balls of any QB in the CFL. They also said that he has the best accuracy in the CFL on the deep ball.

He's also thrown for Over 300 yards in All 4 games so far.

I thought Ray was washed up and couldn't throw the deep ball? I thought he was a dink and dunk QB? I thought that Collaros and Harris were vastly superior? What happened?

(And just in case anyone isn't clear, Yes that last paragraph was Sarcasm!)

In all seriousness though, choosing Ray over Collaros and Harris doesn't seem like all that bad of a choice at this point.

Watching the games, I don't know any CFL QB that isn't taking hits.

    No kidding.
Argos O Line combined with Ray's recent history have fans crossing their fingers every time he gets hit.
As long as he is healthy he can still get it done.
Interesting as it turns out Harris looks to be a much better QB than Collaros at this point.

Collaros has total happy feet at this point. Looks completely uncomfortable out there.

Sometimes this forum confuses me. Having happy feet in the pocket is bad, but being a pylon in the pocket is also bad.

I think Collaros has looked a bit better every game. The other side of the ball is their bigger problem. Despite forcing some turnovers, they just give up way too many plays on D.

They're both bad, if you can't overcome them with other things you do.

Collaros can't seem to set his feet properly when he throws, and it's causing some inaccurate passes, IMO. He looks jumpy to me, like he's either expecting to be ambushed or he's under too much pressure from his coach to make miraculous plays.

Pressure has done that to QBs since the beginning of time. Happened to Lulay as well last night. Difference was that he and offence eventually settled down and got into a rhythm.

Yes, but Collaros has looked like this all season, even sometimes when he's not under a heavy rush. At his peak (2013-15), he didn't ever seem to be fazed by a pass rush.

Concussions and injuries will sometimes do that to a player.

Point being it's a little early come to any conclusions regarding one QB's merits over another.

At his peak he would take off and successfully run with the ball at the most opportune times. That's where the Russ Jackson comparison came from. If Collaros doesn't want to run with the ball any more he'll never hit his peak form again. If he's just another pocket passer the Argonauts have one who's way better.

I've quarterbacks getting hit hard in every game that I've watched so far this season. Also Ray has thrown for 300+ in every game so far this season and is off to another great start. It's Week 5 so I think we have enough information to Start making some comparisons.

Collaros did look quite a bit better last game in the loss to BC, IMO. But his O-line is porous and has him seeing too much pressure.

I still think he is talented QB, but his play has been affected by a number of factors maybe: predictable, pass heavy offence - with little run game to support it and not a good enough cast at O-line or receiver (missing Fantuz, but this new ex-Jets receiver looks pretty good); his injuries have made him less confident and like Rich is saying - maybe he is afraid to scramble or run as much now and that was part of what made him so good; maybe he doesn't get along that great with Kenty and their offensive system with new OC Ptaszek who was an emergency hire last year when their former OC split ?

The Ticats are maybe not as bad as they seem right now - and getting back a few good D-backfielders (Davis, Kaneh & Butler = 3 very good ones) would really help their D - they're getting torched with an inexperienced secondary and Reinbold as a DC does not know how to deal with it or adjust.

Their offence might not get going again though with that O-line and Collaros unable to get back to form.
