Should be the game of the week , or maybe the year so far (Bombers vs. BC last game was IMO).

Esks remain undefeated in a close one.

Esks D with so many injuries is holding up good.

Reilly playing smart and making plays at QB - without top receiver Bowman, and now starting RB Vann (after replacing another key injury - White) is out of this game too. Zylstra is a top notch young receiver IMO.

The Lions challenge that Reilly threw a lateral, it was, but they lose.

The Esks are stopped on 3rd down, challenge for pass interference, it wasn't (in my opinion), but they win.

Next possession, the Lions challenge for pass interference, it was more P.I. than the previous one, but they lose.

This is getting really, really, really embarrassing.

Those calls all seemed pretty close to me.

Those calls all went the way of the home team. And if one accepts that they were all really close, the new 2017 directive from Glen Johnson is that close calls are not to be overturned. The Eskimo challenge for P.I. that they won effectively ended the game.

Even Suitor got angry with the situation when he called for one challenge per team per game.

The key word is "egregious" and I agree that none of the calls or non-calls made on the field were egregiously incorrect.
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force

The Edmonton Eskimos would like to thank Sniffles Milanovich for gifting Vidal Hazelton (and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers would..., etc.).

Yet another quality effort from VH:
    YARDS 159, YAC 88, AVG 19.9, LG 108, TD 2

Nothing like a DB not covering someone allowing 108 yard play to pad the stats. Give it a rest. Hazelton and his buddies had to go. Whether or not he consistently turns it around and becomes a real good team player makes no difference. They were toxic to the Argos last season, and it was the right move.
It's us vs the rest of the country

Nearly got caught because he slowed down instead of running hard to the end zone. What are the odds he was thinking about doing some hot-dog move?

Hazelton is the most talented of the so called big three. Maybe he can last awhile in the league without his azz-clown buddies around. If no-nonsense guys like Maas, Reilly and Bowman can't keep him under control, no one can.

Wouldn't surprise me if this new standard was influenced by the NHL's problems with offside challenges, where they called off goals even if a play was an inch offside.

Egregious or not, the replay system has become a hot-button issue. It's not going away.

Last season I never heard anything more than innuendo in regard to Hazelton; indeed, the innuendo was smeared over an entire group of four receivers, making it doubly dubious in this context. I certainly can think of one correct move that Milanovich made.

Unfortunately, it simply looked like he was running out of gas. Nice straight-arm though.

Disagree on Hazelton - he is easily the least talented of the former Argo "big 3"; nothing special in any way as a receiver in terms of hands, speed, YAC ability, and drops too many passes (another one at least that I saw last night). Congrats to him for getting/tying the 2nd longest reception play in CFL history (108 yards has to be - simple field math, it's calculated from the line of scrimmage - yet TSN commentators seem to have no clue there?), and he did make a decent stiff arm to avoid being tackled at the end; but he was wide-open by miles on that play and the pass was right in his hands.

Sometimes it's about being in the right place at the right time to make a team and get to play, plus getting along with the coaching staff can help and getting the team concept - like you're saying Maas & Reilly types might demand. The Esks were down at least one key starting import receiver with Walker gone to the NFL and their "ratio thinking" last year had them going with 3 NI receiver starters and this year that changed to just one (Watson). So Hazelton ended up on a team in need of 2 or 3 new starting American receivers - and he has made the most of the chance and played well for them thus far. I'm surprised they can't find better than him, but maybe he really puts it together for a fine season.

As far as the refs - lots of brutal to iffy calls continue to happen from flag happy zebras; and the challenges - too many allowed and take too long so the slow down the game - are making the CFL look bad and needs to be re-thought IMO. However, the notion from a lot of cry-baby/homer type fans that this is being done to favor one team or another is ludicrous IMO.
