O'Shea to be enshrined in CFL Hall of Fame this week

Former Argo MLB Mike O'Shea will be enshrined in the CFL Hall of Fame on Thursday as part of a remarkable group even by Hall of Fame standards that includes Anthony Calvillo, Geroy Simon and Kelvin Anderson. One of his many accomplishments, as CFLapedia notes, was his changing the conventional wisdom that Canadians were not up to playing MLB. He has since built a strong record as Argo special teams coordinator and HC of the Bombers.

One of the biggest impacts that O'Shea had on the game was proving that a Canadian could play the sacred middle linebacker spot that was almost always reserved for imports. A fact that didn't go unoticed by other teams who began to seek out and utilize capable homebrews at that spot. The middle linebacker is still the primary defence against athe running attack and O'Shea's career stats show that with 1151 career defensive tackles, currently (as of 2012) the second best total in the history of the leageue behind only hall of famer Willie Pless.

One of the best Argos ever. One of my absolute favourite player. Love this guy and he just shows such great character even when you see him as Head Coach now.
CFL alive and well all others can go to Hell!

Good to see Mike in a suit there. Lol Somebody must have hid his T-Shirts. I agree with everything timlb01 said. Another example why we don't need a reduction in our "Canadians/Nationals" even though the term is kind of loosely applied. Guys like Mike turn into pretty fair country ball players given the chance. Having said that I'm still in favour of Imports who move to Canada apply for citizenship and have say 7 years in the League be classed as Nationals for their senior years.

Mike got a very nice applause from the Hamilton faithful with whom he has not been the most popular over the years.

He is one of the Argos greatest defensive players of all-time and is richly deserving of this honor. Congratulations Mike!

Good to hear. I was at Ivor Wynne when Holloway was part of the ingoing members. I can honestly say that many of the meatheads around me that day were not so gracious.

O'Shea interviewed on TSN during the game said he heard a few boos, but joked/laughed about it.

He was a great MLB for the Argos, but I still remember him too as an outstanding young linebacker for the Ticats; a lot of Pussycat fans might think of him as a traitor, but the smart ones will realize how great he played on their D - even as a rookie - for a few seasons.

In 1994, Hamilton lost the last game of the season, knocking them out of the Playoffs. O'Shea was the only player hanging around post game under the stands, noticeably distraught about the loss, signing autographs. Still in full equipment, bloody knees and all, he signed my Jogo card. I was pretty excited when he joined the Argonauts a few years later.

I was at O'Shea's first CFL game as a rookie - in Ottawa; didn't follow the CFL draft (or CIS ball) near as much back then and didn't know much or anything about the guy - had to ask a Ticat fan sitting near me who this linebacker was making plays/nose for the ball, all over the field.

Yes so richly deserved, Mike was the best.
His tackles total tells you a lot, but even more, he had the heart and the burning
desire to win, and the love of the game that Flutie and Pinball also had.
Put them together it was just the best of times for Argo fans. Way to go O'Shea!

Holloway typically had good games against Hamilton from what I understand.
