GAME THREAD: Calgary at Saskatchewan September 24, 2017

The 13th man in Riderville always makes it a difficult place for opponents to play. I was really wanting to pick the Riders in this game if only to counter another Stampeder march to total regular season dominance. However, while Calgary has 14 players on its injured lists, the Riders have 21 on their lists and also have a significant number of "walking wounded". Thus, although the Riders 13rh man and the uncertainty about whether Messam plays make this game less predictable, I have to give the edge to Calgary, especially if Glenn is not close to 100% healthy, making Saskatchewan go with the talented but inexperienced Bridge against the best defence in the CFL.

Brandon Bridge once again showed he is indeed a talented QB in leading the Riders downfield to score a TD and then marching them towards the goal-line in the dying minutes but also showed his inexperience in not throwing the ball away when he couldn't find a receiver leading to being hit and fumbling the ball. If he is allowed to develop, he could become a top QB. However, he should stop hurdling defenders because soon or later it's going to lead a serious mid-air injury.

Riders might have won if they started Bridge, IMO.

Glenn continues to be a mediocre - who gets hot once in awhile with his quick release passing game - but who won't take a team anywhere - and the Riders have a pretty good O-line and a very talented receiving corps.

Bridge at least has the gun for an arm - he can throw strikes all over the field, plus he is mobile and if he learns to pick his spots running, could add a lot to the offence; he needs more time to learn to read defences better and to develop more pocket poise (plus learning when to run) - but he has so much potential. Glenn is what he is - a mediocre, very limited QB talent who gets handed CFL chance after chance after chance - by various GOBs.
