    Kavis Reed Needs to Go

After taking the Eskimos downhill, GM Kavis Reed is showing some of the signs in Montreal. He has 21 players who are 30 or older on the Als, while the most any other team has is 12. This originally was due to personnel decisions by Popp. However, since Reed was signed in December he essentially kept this old team together rather than starting to replace at least ten of them. After a 3-4 start, the Als have lost seven in a row, which is typical of many aging teams due to their increased injury rate and wear and tear on their bodies. Since taking over as coach, his body language on the side lines often seems one of dejection, which also affects players, and his decisions seem to get worse as pressure builds up during a game. This is similar to what happened in Edmonton when the Eskimos started losing.
His cutting of Green and Woods reflects his poor judgement. By cutting Woods for his reporting a safety violation to the CFLPA, even though Woods was a player rep and by failing to talk to Chapdelaine first, he has shown poor communication and managerial skills.

You forgot to mention the 13th man in Saskatchewan. lol But Kavis isn't all bad. He helped Jim Popp rebuild the Argos this year.

I can't blame Kavis for this. The problem is much higher up. He should not have been given the GM job in the first place. I'll bet it's the first time ever that a man has gone from Special Team Coordinator one year to GM the next, essentially becoming him boss' (HC Chapdelaine) boss. Crazy.

I'd argue that overall, Popp hurt the Als a lot more than Reed has, but Reed (IMO) has the process back even further, by a lot of the decisions he's made. Reed should have never been named GM in the first place, and the problem with the Alouettes is how they're run at the top. Reed is extremely good at kissing butts and selling himself (no other explanation as to why he continues to get jobs and promoted in the CFL).

Als need a clear organizational structure, that won't happen under the Wetenhalls, and it will probably get even worse under Andrew. The team badly needs new ownership, if only the Molson's or even Saputo's would buy the team.

Kavis Reed, beside using forensic incorrectly as RJ noted in another thread, continues to make odd comments and show little understanding of Montreal fans or players.

As fans (and maybe even the players) can’t wait for the season to wrap up, general manager Kavis Reed has done nothing to give Als fans hope that good times are right around the corner. In a radio interview on Oct. 11 with TSN 690’s Mitch Melnick, Reed spouted several cliche answers and offered no specifics for beleaguered Als backers.
Spouting catch phrases and repeating the same answers to varied questions, Reed sounded like someone who simply doesn’t understand the Montreal market. You have to give hope. You have to point to indicators. And most importantly – you have to give them a reason to care. Instead, we heard Reed say that he is excited about the progress shown this season. Only, he wouldn’t provide specifics or name players.
More than once he said that he’s seen great improvement in the locker room. Except that the game is played on the field. What the heck does that mean, anyway? Did the locker room get a new coat of paint? Are players getting better at card games before they get dressed for the game? So bizarre. Then again, what should we expect of Reed? After all, this is a guy that was merely head of the Alouettes special teams last year, only to then take the role of GM, essentially becoming the boss of his former boss: the now fired Jacques Chapdelaine. Only in the CFL.
Another item that I found curious during this interview was when Reed mentioned how he is trying to build a winning culture, as though the Jim Popp culture didn’t produce results, ever. Not only was that disrespectful, but it was misguided as well. Sure, the Popp reign appeared to have an expiration date. But a lot of great things were accomplished.
Montreal CFL fans need details, and they need them now. You can’t gloss over failure with a vague collection of sayings. Rather, you have to point to concrete examples of why fans should slowly start making their way back to Molson Stadium – particularly when the team’s former boss, Popp, is preparing for the playoffs in Toronto. I’m not sure if Kavis is being instructed by ownership to give as little detail as possible about what is going on with this season’s edition of the Alouettes or not. But if so, then he’s doing a masterful job. ...
In a post-Anthony Calvillo era where success isn’t a given anymore, Alouettes fans are looking for any little positive (both on and off the field) to latch onto, and Kavis Reed must do a better job of delivering.

Als' president, Patrick Boivin, has confirmed that Reed will be back as GM, but they will have a new HC. Half the problem solved.

The glass remains definitely half empty. Miserable failure to continue.

How bad have the Als been under Kavis Reed?

If the Als were bad under former head coach Jacques Chapdelaine, they’ve been absolutely putrid since general manager Kavis Reed replaced him on an interim basis. Montreal’s 0-5 under Reed and 3-13 overall. They haven’t won a game since Aug. 11 and are now on a nine-game losing skid, something they haven’t done since 1981, when they went 3-13 under Joe Scannella.

Should the Als fail to win another game this season — a distinct possibility, considering they finish at Saskatchewan and Hamilton, and haven’t won on the road in 2017 — this will mark their worst record over an 18-game schedule. In 1986, the last season before the franchise folded, Montreal was 4-14.
The Als have been outscored 206-81 since the coaching change. Their offence is non-existent and their defence has relinquished more than 40 points in a regular-season game for the fifth time, something that hasn’t occurred since 1960, tying a team record.
