    Wilder Runs for Breast Cancer

James Wilder Jr. has tweeted that he will donate $1 for every yard he gains and $100 for every TD he scores towards breast cancer research. Once again an Argo demonstrates the strong community orientation of the team and its players.

His campaign has taken off the same way that Wilder has over the last month when he gets the slightest opening from his o-line. He’s quickly recruited teammates, some CFL cohorts and two of his closest NFL friends, in running backs Chris Thompson (not former CFL DB Chris Thompson) and Devonta Freeman to join his cause, among others.
The timing lines up with the Argos hosting their CFL Pink game on Saturday, where players wear pink on the field to raise breast cancer awareness. ...
Wearing pink brings awareness, but awareness doesn’t do anything if you don’t take action. So I wanted to find a way to take action with people in this league and not just this league, the NFL as well,” Wilder said. “This is just something where we’re all in good positions where we can help out. I just came up with something where us as running backs can all just get money to put toward research.”

Nice stuff. It would be nice if this was running on all the media outlets. I hope he has to donate his entire salary Saturday

Rather than start a new thread, thought I'd post this link here:

I especially took note of Popp's quote: “For us, he was probably our best special teams player through the first 12 weeks of the season, he was in the tops as one of our tacklers, but disrupting, blowing the wedge up,” Popp said.

This was evident in watching him hustle downfield on kick coverage at the time. Fans tend to focus on who makes the tackles (and Noel deserves plaudits for making a lot of ST tackles, as did Woodson early this season) but there is more to it than that. All 12 guys have a job to do on kick coverage, and all get graded by coaches in ways we will never know.

This is another story slightly off the thread topic. After the Argos beat the Riders in Eastern Final, James Wilder Jr. put on his father's Tampa Bay Buccaneer jersey to honour his father. The following comment from a long story about their relationship gives insight into how close it is.

While his mother, sister and aunt made the trip to Toronto for the East Final, James Sr. told his son that he would be travelling to Ottawa for the Grey Cup – whether Junior was in the game or not.
“He’ll say stuff like ‘I’m not coming to a small game like that, I’m going to the Grey Cup. Are you gonna be there?” Wilder Junior said, dropping his voice a couple of octaves to imitate his father. “That’s his style. It’s a way to keep me hungry and humble. It’s not personal and it’s always done in a fun way.”
    “But it’s motivating.”
