2018 Free Agent signings, contract extensions, and other transactions

According to cfl.ca, we have 23 pending FAs. Here's the list, along with my predictions/wishes/notes about each:
    • BASS, Khalil -- useful guy to re-sign, obviously not essential
    • BISHOP, Ken -- since we still have Wynn and Cash, re-sign only at a low price
    • BLACK, Matt -- will likely retire, all the best to him
    • EDWARDS, Armanti -- must re-sign, but price will be high
    • FAJARDO, Cody -- I'd like him back, as holder/short-yardage and depth guy, but salary has to stay below $100k
    • FULLER, Jeff -- let him walk
    • GABRIEL, Jermaine -- must re-sign, but price will be high
    • GREEN, S.J. -- must re-sign, but price may be high
    • HAJRULLAHU, Lirim -- must re-sign, I expect we will get him back
    • LAING, Cleyon -- Really want him back but price will be high; I expect he will try NFL again and/or get CFL offers
    • MITCHELL, Josh -- would like to see what he can do, but he has zero bargaining power, may be let go
    • MURRAY, Derico -- valuable guy who should be re-signed if possible
    • OWUSU-ANSAH, Akwasi -- I'd like him back but he is replaceable (Darby)
    • POSEY, DeVier -- definitely want him back but he'll probably get NFL and CFL offers; I think 50/50 at best
    • RAY, Ricky -- really, really hope he re-signs; after hearing him yesterday, I think 50/50 at best
    • SEARS JR., Johnny -- depth guy, can be replaced, let him go
    • VAUGHN, Cassius -- should be a priority signing, warrants a decent raise
    • WALKER, Cameron -- has no barg power, I'm fine with bringing him back but there are other guys who can fill his role on STs
    • WAUD, Daryl -- after three seasons of almost no game action, he'll be allowed to walk and will probably sign with Hamilton
    • WHITAKER, Brandon -- will likely retire, all the best to him
    • WHITE, Mitchell -- I'd like him back but he is replaceable (Darby); I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to Ottawa
    • WOODS, Bear -- must re-sign IMO; he along with Ball and Lemon is key to the defence

    • BASS, Khalil -- I'd let him walk.
    • BISHOP, Ken -- I'd let him walk.
    • BLACK, Matt -- Retirement.
    • EDWARDS, Armanti -- Sign if the price is right.
    • FAJARDO, Cody -- Let him come to camp to fight for a spot, but the price has to be right.
    • FULLER, Jeff -- I'd let him walk
    • GABRIEL, Jermaine -- Injuries issues could lead to him having to take a salary reduction, so I'd re-sign him.
    • GREEN, S.J. -- Reported to be around $250k, I'm not comfortable giving him the same or more, I'd like to see at no more than $200k.
    • HAJRULLAHU, Lirim -- Re-sign.
    • LAING, Cleyon -- Re-sign.
    • MITCHELL, Josh -- Re-sign if healthy, give him a shot at camp.
    • MURRAY, Derico -- I'd let him walk.
    • OWUSU-ANSAH, Akwasi -- I'd let him walk.
    • POSEY, DeVier -- Re-sign.
    • RAY, Ricky -- Re-sign to another incentive deal.
    • SEARS JR., Johnny -- Never stays healthy, so I'd let him walk.
    • VAUGHN, Cassius -- Re-sign.
    • WALKER, Cameron -- Re-sign.
    • WAUD, Daryl -- Re-sign, doesn't improve or an't stay healthy you cut him later.
    • WHITAKER, Brandon -- Retirement.
    • WHITE, Mitchell -- Re-sign
    • WOODS, Bear -- Re-sign depending on price.

Unless Black has changed his tune, he recently said he'd keep on playing as long as he possibly can. I'm not against him coming back with the same role he had.

    • BASS, Khalil -- useful guy to re-sign, obviously not essential. I don't think that the Argos will bring him back. In my opinion, he was brought in solely because Ball, Woods and Plummer all got nicked up down the stretch. Bass has been a starter in this league and I suspect that a starting job is what he'd seek out.
    • BISHOP, Ken -- since we still have Wynn and Cash, re-sign only at a low price. Can Cash be relied upon though? Really though, it is probably Bishop or Laing and I'd rather have Laing.
    • BLACK, Matt -- will likely retire, all the best to him. Whether or not he retires, I want it to be as an Argo.
    • EDWARDS, Armanti -- must re-sign, but price will be high. I'd like him back, he's a quiet underrated receiver.
    • FAJARDO, Cody -- I'd like him back, as holder/short-yardage and depth guy, but salary has to stay below $100k. I could go either way. I don't know what Trestman thinks of him as a passer though. I think they are higher on Bethel-Thompson.
    • FULLER, Jeff -- let him walk. Goodbye.
    • GABRIEL, Jermaine -- must re-sign, but price will be high. Bring him back.
    • GREEN, S.J. -- must re-sign, but price may be high. I just bought his jersey so I hope they bring him back.
    • HAJRULLAHU, Lirim -- must re-sign, I expect we will get him back. Bring him back.
    • LAING, Cleyon -- Really want him back but price will be high; I expect he will try NFL again and/or get CFL offer. It's either him or Bishop and I'd rather have Laing. Also might depend on whether coaches think Gaydosh or Finley can be legit starters.
    • MITCHELL, Josh -- would like to see what he can do, but he has zero bargaining power, may be let go. Kinda want to see what he can do as well.
    • MURRAY, Derico -- steadiest defender all year IMO. I'd like to have him back.
    • OWUSU-ANSAH, Akwasi -- I'd like him back but he is replaceable (Darby). Between him and Mitchell White, I'd like White.
    • POSEY, DeVier -- definitely want him back but he'll probably get NFL and CFL offers; I think 50/50 at best. Love to have back.
    • RAY, Ricky -- really, really hope he re-signs; after hearing him yesterday, I think 50/50 at best. Please one more year to get the succession plan into motion.
    • SEARS JR., Johnny -- depth guy, can be replaced, let him go. Goodbye
    • VAUGHN, Cassius -- should be a priority signing, warrants a decent raise. PAY THIS MAN!
    • WALKER, Cameron -- has no barg power, I'm fine with bringing him back but there are other guys who can fill his role on STs. Agreed.
    • WAUD, Daryl -- after three seasons of almost no game action, he'll be allowed to walk and will probably sign with Hamilton. Agreed.
    • WHITAKER, Brandon -- will likely retire, all the best to him. Agreed.
    • WHITE, Mitchell -- I'd like him back but he is replaceable (Darby); I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to Ottawa. Shutdown guy who I'd like back. Tweeted that he was moving to Ottawa though so that might be an indication, but then again Desjardins apparently didn't want him back.
    • WOODS, Bear -- must re-sign IMO; he along with Ball and Lemon is key to the defence. Essential signing.

Almost forgot that we still have Gaydosh around, I'd like to see what he could do in a starters role. Sucks about White though, hopefully he's still willing to play for the double blue.

Yeah I could go along with all those ideas. White looks like he could be a good cover guy in a man defense. He turned Ottawa down when cut this year.
Really disappointed for Daryl Waud. Don't know what his injury was this year. I would like to see him back because I believe he has good pass rushing ability. Maybe at DE in place of Walker? He looked a lot lighter than the listed 290 this year.
    He will get offers.

If White does leave then you will likely see Owusu-Ansah brought back. I know you aren't a huge fan, but I did feel he improved this year.

I'd like to know if Darby was healthy at year-end. If he was, that meant the coaches felt O-A was better (and I liked Darby a lot). O-A made some good plays this year and was not victimized too often. Our defence overall was very good, with no real weak spots. I'd certainly like to see him re-signed, but as long as we don't lose both him and White, I think we will be fine. Especially considering that in Chamblin's defence, most of the DBs and one of the LBs move all over the place.

Gaydosh is a very useful guy but IMO it would be a big drop from Laing to him. We need at least three viable DTs who can rotate in and out, preferably four like we had at the end of the season (with Finley as well).

There's no way deVier Posey doesn't sign in the NFL after his season and Grey Cup MVP performance. He's good as gone. That makes it essential they re-sign Green and Edwards IMO.

Six or seven starters on defence are free agents, that makes it tough, we can expect to lose 3 or 4 of them. I think the Canadians Gabriel and Laing should be the priorities along with The Bear.

I think you're the only one that feels that way. To me, he AK is more important than White. White throughout his career has played field corner which is likely the easiest spot in the secondary to play. I would love to see Robert Woodson get a shot at starting over there. Either way, they would be pretty set with AK and Darby at corners. Pretty sure AK will be re-signed.

Except for the fact that he will be 28 years old at the start of the season next year. Not old, but he will also be a 4th year NFL roster player which also works against him. I'm betting he'll have a couple of workouts but will ultimately return.

I think you're forgetting that Ansah played field for most of his time here. Jefferson injury and for some of this season being the exception, but I'll leave it at that, as I see no need to get into this again.

I haven't forgotten. I think he was good there, and was better this year. Hard to judge DB's in a Rich Stubler coached Defence. You never know who was out of position in his match style coverage.

Very manageable list. A lot can be replaced. It's not like players are going to leave due to uncertainty, so resigning and attracting other free agents is going to be much easier this off-season. Coming off a Grey Cup win, some of the players could be a little overvalued, especially to us fans.

It sure seems as though Ray is going to retire.

Although it would be nice to see Ray return retiring a champion makes a lot of sense.
Would be nice if he stayed with the organization in some capacity.
