Reed is a bit of a head- scratcher maybe; but maybe Popp is trying to corner the market on MLB talent? - Riders, Als, Bummers and now Ottawa have big question marks at MLB - maybe Popp feels he can wait them out and make a steal of a trade by TC time?

Reed hasn't stuck with 3 CFL teams now - maybe cause he just isn't that good - though he is athletic and a big hitter; Woods is quite better IMO and Plummer seemed to really come on - and would be cheaper $M$ wise ? Gotta love TC competition but can't see all 3 of the above mentioned sticking with the Argos.

Alan Michael Cash ? - thought he woulda made an impact last season - maybe this year? - Laing & Wynn, with Gaydosh & Finley as back-ups is pretty solid at DT though.

Agree with Bleeds Double Blue, thrilled with February 2018 vs February 2017!!
Yep, this Feb has been so much easier to take for sure. What a difference a year makes.

Maybe there are designs to have Reed or Bass play off the edge with Tuggle?

Great to see Bear Woods back! He was a strong leader on the team last year both on and off the field.

I have a sneaking suspicion we'll be hearing soon. Reading the tea leaves, it kinda seems like the new guy (if there actually is one) may already be implementing directions on personnel and philosophy. Or not.

Was the market for middle linebackers that diluted?
Would Reed or vice versa Woods be too happy to learn that the other was signed?
Would Popp had been up front about that?

Rico Murray refused to resign with the Argos after they offered him a payout despite his selection as an Eastern All-Star.

Murray figured it was his destiny to wind up in Ottawa, though it sure helped that the Redblacks were willing to pay more than the Toronto Argonauts, the team he won a Grey Cup with at TD Place stadium last November. When CFL free agency began Feb. 13, it quickly became obvious to Murray that he would relocate to the 613 area code.
“Montreal showed interest. Toronto wanted me to come back,” Murray said. “But I couldn’t sign in Toronto and take a pay cut. That would have been wrong, that would have been a disservice to my family. It was a business decision, but it was also an opportunity for me to grow as a player. ...
An East Division all-star in 2017, Murray had 55 tackles, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble and a touchdown. In five CFL seasons, including four with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, he has 235 defensive tackles, four sacks, 10 interceptions, two touchdowns and two forced fumbles in 68 games. While he has versatility in where he can play, the 5-11, 203-pound Murray says he isn’t concerned about positions. It’s all about the team, about winning another Grey Cup.

Not sure what Rico Murray was paid last season in Toronto but considering how he played offering him a pay cut is bizarre IMO.

Murray should be a good veteran addition to the RedBlacks D that needs it - particularly in the secondary.

Not sure how he made East all-star last year though - but those are often based on past accomplishment; Murray just did not look as good in the Argo secondary as he did with the Ticats IMO; and with the addition of Yell to the Argos, I think they can put together a very good secondary (with Heath, Vaughn and Q. Ford, maybe Ansah, as good components)

Exactly. There is only so much money to go around.

Murray was very solid, and played his first full campaign ever. He provided sound coverage, was versatile and was a very sure tackler. He also pops pads. He deserved every bit of that All Star nod, and he is very welcome in Ottawa.

Wonder why Popp & co. did not press hard to get him re-signed then ?

Younger, cheaper. There are other options and you have to prioritize. Plus, they wanted to get better and it seems they have with Yell and Heath.

Argos have signed two International WRs: Tobias Palmer and Kendall Sanders, who played one game for the Argos last year.

Palmer, 28, joins the Argos after spending time professionally with the Montreal Alouettes, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and Jacksonville Jaguars. The 5-11, 175-pound native of Pittsboro, North Carolina, played in one regular-season game with the Jaguars are signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2013. In two seasons at North Carolina State, the Georgia Military College transfer hauled in 91 passes for 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 60 yards on seven carries. He also returned 47 kickoffs for 1,172 yards and two return touchdown for the Wolfpack. In 2012, Palmer led the ACC with 1,124 kickoff return yards and two kickoff return touchdowns. ...

Sanders, 23, returns to the team after making his CFL debut with the Argos during the 2017 season. In one start, the 6-0, 189-pound native of Athens, Texas, was targeted twice and caught one pass for one yard. In one season at Arkansas State, the University of Texas transfer caught 38 passes for 553 yards and seven touchdowns. Sanders’ seven touchdown receptions in 2016 was a team-high and led the Sun Belt Conference.
