Former Argo QB Danny Barrett Fired by Miami

Danny Barrett, who played QB for the Argos in 1985 and 1987-88 and almost led the team to a Grey Cup victory in 1987 by running for a 25 yard major with less than three minutes to go to give the Argos a 36-35 lead, only to see the Eskimos win on a last minute FG, has been fired from his RB coach position by the Miami Dolphins.

Miami had the 2nd worst rushing attack in the NFL this year so I assume someone had to pay the price for it.

Houston Texans have hired Danny Barrett as their RB coach. Mark Lane discusses what Barrett's past record suggests about his likelihood of success in Houston.

Barrett’s tenure with the Dolphins began after Lamar Miller signed with the Texans in the 2016 off-season. Miami was 23rd in the league the year prior and fifth-round rookie Jay Ajayi gained 187 rushing yards and scored a touchdown on 49 carries in nine games. After Barrett’s arrival, Ajayi played 15 games for Miami and rushed for 1,272 yards and eight touchdowns on 260 rushes. Ajayi produced three 200-yard performances, two of them in consecutive weeks, as the Dolphins finished 10-6 and scored a wildcard berth. The Dolphins awarded Ajayi as team MVP for 2016.
Ajayi was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 season, and the Dolphins run game finished 29th in the league and their four rushing touchdowns next to dead last in the NFL. While it may or may not have been Barrett’s fault, head coach Adam Gase preferred to bring in longtime Denver Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville, with whom Gase worked in Denver from 2009-14, to coach running backs.
Before joining the Dolphins, Barrett coached the UCF Knights, first as a running backs coach from 2011-14 and then as quarterbacks coach/interim head coach in 2015. The Knights produced two NFL caliber running backs in Latavius Murray and Storm Johnson.
Barrett would be working with Miller, whose rushing yards dropped from 1,073 in 2016 down to 888 in 2017, along with 2017 third-round pick D’Onta Foreman. Now that things are essentially settled quarterback wise at the top of the depth chart with Deshaun Watson, Bill O’Brien wants to get the running game going again to complement his field general and the passing attack.
The former Cincinnati Bearcat also served as the Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach from 2000-06 and helped the CFL franchise appear in three West Final games.
