Another problem for the Als is that they have far too many players 30 or older. Last year that number was 21 when the largest number on any other team was 12. Older players, while providing experience, are more likely to be injured and wear down as the season wears on.
I just counted the number of players on their roster who are 30 or older. It's 22, even after getting rid of Shologan, Lewis and Guiguere. Kavis is not doing enough to build a younger team and his recruiting of Canadian talent in the draft so far, other than possibly Foote, hardly suggests that he will be able to build much on that.

Mavis has at least added a good starting NI in Westerman at DE; and now has signed kicker Van Glyswick (good move not just relying on the inconsistent Bede) and former BC RB Murray-Lawrence (probably just depth, but speedster who can return kicks).

Mavis could do some good things in the draft to improve their Canadian talent; but I would not count on that at all, and a confirmed GOB myopic like him will be going with the 7 only need apply plan - with Westerman added - probably has his 7 only already figured out.
